Opinion: David Frum - "Trumpocracy" [I Have Some Food For Thought To Share]

Interesting discussion on Frums' book "Trumpocracy" which was released in 2018.
David Frum has been a supporter for the Republican party for quite some time and has written speeches for George W. Bush.
“Maybe you do not care much about the future of the Republican Party. You should. Conservatives will always be with us. If conservatives become convinced that they can not win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will reject democracy.”

“The main benefit of controlling a modern bureaucratic state is not the power to persecute the innocent. It is the power to protect the guilty.”

@Zonuss It's just the guys opinion of the republican party in relationship to Trump. Considering current developments, he wasn't that far off I guess.

David Frum commenting on Donald Trump. Now that's a weird one.

@Kwek00 Alright, then how about this, they both have a significant amount of overlap on their political philosophies. Maybe their end goals aren't the same, but they both support a lot of the same things, and oppose a lot of them too.

@BlueMetalChick Then you have to investigate on what kind of overlap you are talking about, and if the elements in the overlap can be argued as being "bad" or "evil" considering your super-vilain annalogy.

This kind of thinking that you are applying, is the same kind of thinking that people use when they say Bernie-Sanders, AOC and Joe Biden all have the same political agenda because they are democrats. As if the democratic or republican party are hompogenous entities. It's kinda silly.

@Kwek00 I mostly used the supervillain analogy because people often times compare Trump to Krang from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and it brought to mind the relationship between Krang and the Shredder. They both want to eliminate the TMNT and Master Splinter so they work together but they also hate each other cos they have such different ways of going about it.

Mirage Comics references aside, I mostly think of the military industrial complex as Trump and Frum's most major point of overlap, especially considering that Frum is to this day a staunch supporter of the war efforts in both Iraq and Afghanistan, as is Trump, despite the occasional blustering he might make when saying he's gonna withdraw.
