What was the toughest job you ever had?

It could be a time of employment you had, a one time side job, a role in life, or a responsibility you were given or took. What was it and what was so hard about it? Remember that what seems easy to one person can be very difficult for another.
For myself I would say being a parent is hard because so many times I'm wondering if I'm doing the right thing.
My current employment is difficult because it's so physically demanding. I'm a picker for online order fulfillment and I feel like my legs are going to fall off every day.

Weirdly, none of the employed jobs were particularly challenging, except sometimes physically taxing or annoying at times. I think that's standard for everyone.

I'd say my time in university was more challenging, we had skill sessions and personal development groups where I had to counsel people and at the start of all of this I was 18. Prior to this, all the experience I had was from friends/family and from stories I had read, so to see people share such vulnerable parts of themselves to me at a stage in my life where I was in my own mental conflict, it got overwhelming at times. I don't regret it though. I enjoyed it because I knew its what I wanted to do, but I would sometimes walk away holding onto the emotions shared with me and it took a while to navigate my way around that.

@NickiHijab You are very good at being insightful of yourself. Not everyone has that

I used to do picking and dependent on the season it got really busy, and they'd expect you to to turn around 200 picks an hour. I got into fitness after that.
I had a mentally challenged job a few years ago, it was hard, Bully culture, call centre culture, hated it, found a colleague dead due to the bully nature. It broke me mentally, and if honest, I wasn't right since. Its something I have only admitted to myself recently.
yes I had the support there but it was more so how badly people could affect someones own life. I still cant come to terms with it.

@Gangstress 200 and hour? Singles? I haven't been doing it long so I've only gotten up to 100% one time. Yesterday I was at 80%.

At a fish packing warehouse. Nasty and hard work.
morrgin · F
@FreeSpirit1 I like fish but too much of anything can get gross. Put that in fast paced factory setting and it would get old real quick.

I worked for UPS one summer loading trucks - not the little brown delivery trucks, but big 18 wheeler trucks. The was a huge conveyor belt that ran the length of the building. There were side chutes that would direct packages to the proper truck.

If you were too slow, packages would back up onto the main conveyor belt. You’d hear a siren and then someone over the loudspeaker saying “ Blockage Truck #8”. You’d then have to scramble up the chute to unblock everything.

I remember coming home so sweaty that I literally had to peel my clothes off.
morrgin · F
@sciguy18 I've unloaded 18 wheeler trucks and it sucks when you get backed up cuz they stop for nothing.
sciguy18 · M
@morrgin We loved unloading because you could go at your own pace...

morrgin · F
@SageWanderer I forgot about that one. There are support groups out there for it but who can find the time for it when you take care of someone else around the clock. Take care of yourself
Byron8by7 · M
My experience was/is similar.

1): Parenting

2): Working at an Amazon warehouse
morrgin · F
@Byron8by7 I'm working at a Target warehouse. They treat their employees great, but it makes me so tired

Package delivery seems like a easy job
morrgin · F
@smileylovesgaming I talked to one of those guys once and watched a short documentary on it. Their delivery vehicle times everything like how long their door is open and how long it takes them to even get their seatbelt on.

Bacon factory😢
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@morrgin I like bacon too, but handling it all day, going home with a greasy car, smelling like bacon, pieces of fat on your shoes.
It just sickening after a while🤢
morrgin · F
@Virgo79 I worked in a jerky/pepperoni factory for awhile. Sometimes when we didn't have much work to do they would have us go outside and do screen repair. In the stuffing room sometimes the casings would break and raw pepperoni meat would start shooting every where and get on us. Then going outside in the summer for screen repair the yellow jackets would smell the raw meat and attack us.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@morrgin I worked on the raw meat end of the bacon, pig Billy's everywhere😟

Being a sister
morrgin · F
@Casheyane Why is being a sister so hard? I never thought it was but I'm the youngest. There must be more to it than I realized.
Mrsbetweenfatandfit · 26-30, F
Working in the south was difficult for me because I saw racism in such a day to day way it made me sick to my stomach. I ended up very depressed while living there. I’ll never forget the director talking with a co worker of mine while I was right there & they both agreed that black women had a “smell to them” & they were confused & revolted that this coworker of mine her ex was now dating a black woman. My time there is forever burned into my soul. I’ll never be able to grasp those that see others as better or less because of color.
morrgin · F
@Mrsbetweenfatandfit That would be very disturbing. It would almost be like an evil in plain sight that makes you question the good in the world
