If I go to the unsubscribe button for spam mail, am I inadvertently signing myself up for more spam?

Many a times, the unsubscribe link points to a phishing website. It's best to delete the email without opening its contents...
It depends on the source. I've bought various things online and gotten emails from the established company that sold to me. Those unsubscribe links tend to work. But if it's true unsolicited spam from a mysterious source, I doubt unsubscribe will work. For me, gmail has been really good at filtering out true unsolicited spam.

absolutely, spam is so systematized they share mailing lists.

Chances are you are on a spam list from other sources. Using the unsubscribe lets them know your account is active.

I’ve tried to stop certain sites from sending me Spam by hitting the UNSUBSCRIBE button and they continue sending it daily.

Most likely you'll be upgraded to 5G play plus at over $80 a month too with no way to go back to your old plan.

Sadly, that's usually how it works.
