When my daughter was younger, I always bought her one with the chocolate candy for each day.

@chrisCA Oh there are lots of crazy Advent calendars out there!
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
We get different ones every year. When she was little her grandmother got her one with chocolates a few years, then we got one with legos, made one with differnt flavors of hot chocolate packets and studio ghibli pins, last year's was this cute little build/decorated Christmas village her grandmother got. This year I got 2 one is little Christmas ornament crafts and the other is little mochi squishies.

@Starcrossed My kids would have loved the one with Studio Ghibli Pins.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F

When I was a kid my parents hung up a calendar made of felt with little pockets. Very cute!
The first 15-ish pockets were filled with sweets and the last few with money :D
I miss those days

I have a whisky one and a beer one.
Annoyingly, Advent doesn't normally start on 1st December.

OverTheHill · 56-60, M
@malizz No, it doesn't, but most calendars you buy start with December 1st.
Poppies · 61-69, F
We never had one, but I just gave one to our son for our grandson. It has a tiny toy for every day.

I'm not even sure what an Advent calendar is other than something to do with Christmas. I mean most calendars have the month of December.....
chrisCA · M
@OverTheHill It is a practice in the Catholic Church.
OverTheHill · 56-60, M
@chrisCA Not only the Catholic Church chris, but some Protestants observe it. Also non-religious folk might have an advent calendar as well.
chrisCA · M
@OverTheHill True. The same for the Advent wreath.
