What do national holidays mean to you?

Most countries have national holidays honoring any number of past events and people. Do any of the holidays in your country mean more (to you) than a day off work?

If they do, which ones have meaning for you?

Christmas is very important to me, because that's when the S family gathering happens. Usually in my house, and my sister's house at the other side of the lake. So many beautiful faces! 😃
Self experience counts the most in each sentient's life.
Patriotism comes to me naturally and I had done my part to keep it alive. For now, by keeping the memories of Republic Day alive in my heart. I review my past indulgences during that month and relive my joyous moments, on certainly Not a mere national holiday.

Depends on the day, but sometimes it means a break from the grind.
