Why is the humerus called the funny bone?

Ok it’s because of the name but there’s nothing funny about hitting your elbow 😤

Well, the "funny bone" isn't a bone, at all. When you hit your elbow in a way that the blow compresses your ulnar nerve, that's what hurts. That's the funny bone.

@PhoenixPhail Thank you for that explanation. I think the name "funny bone" itself comes from the fact that even though it hurts like the dickens, for some reason we all find it funny when someone does it even though we know they are in pain.
@indyjoe Yep. And thanks for Best Answer.

Actually the term "funny bone" has been expanded to include any bone that you might actually hit and it hurts (shins, forearms, knees, elbows, even head sometimes). But you're right...it's not funny, it hurts.

Interesting information 👍@indyjoe

@comfi1 Thank you...actually, I don't know if that expansion is official, but most people I know or have known have said that whenever they hit any solid bony part so I'd say it's "unofficially expanded to include".🤠
