are antipsychotics safe to take

i take an antipsychotic for paranoia, took it for over a decade now..the only thing i noticed is that it increased my appetite and i'm eating more.....but earlier i had a worrying thought can these meds cause schizophrenia? or anything else more severe?

I've scanned a couple of articles for you, and it appears that anti-psychotic medications can actually HELP people with schizophrenia.

As with all drugs, you should speak to your doctor regarding your dose. If you feel that the present dose is no longer working, the doctor MIGHT wish to increase the dose, or even change your medication.

One thing that can change the effectiveness of a certain drug is weight. If you have gained 5 stone or more of weight, then the dose that you were taking when you were thinner will not be AS effective.

If you have any concerns or questions, talk to your doctor or GP. They have been prescribed carefully for a specific reason and you will make yourself a whole lot sicker if you stop taking them.

Increased appetite sounds no bad thing 🙂
