It feels colder because it's too expensive to run the heating

Here's me looking at the weather thinking it's seven celcius outside. How come I'm so cold? Well it's because inside it's freezing compared to normal because of the ridiculous gas prices in the UK making it too expensive to have heating on. I hope it's a short winter.

I bought myself a heated shoulder pad thingy from lidl, it's 100w on it's highest setting of 6 but I've not needed it higher than 1-2 so it's using way less than 100w currently, it makes a huge difference to how warm I am without the heating on. Highly recommended, if you don't have a lidl or an aldis you can get em on ebay.

I survived living one winter in an uninsulated room with single pane windows, where the wind from the icy waterfront could blow right up the street and hit my room. I sent away for ski pants, and I wore my coat and battery operated hunting socks while I was sitting at my desk using my laptop.

When the HEAT and power went out for the entire town for four days, I piled ALL my clothing onto the bed under my heavy quilt, and slept with a knitted cap on my head, and wore my hoodie and a coat to bed.

@4meAndyou It’s windy today and I am wearing fleece pants, a t-shirt, fuzzy house socks and a thick fleece lined shirt in the house. I must have gotten my feet out from under the covers last night because both are stiff this morning

@cherokeepatti It's important to dress as if you are OUTSIDE when it gets that cold inside, and the battery operated hunting socks were a gift from heaven, for me.

@4meAndyou It’s not all that cold, have the thermostat set on 67. But the howling wind makes it feel cooler. I should have put on house socks when I went to bed.

It’s so wrong we pay top prices yet oil and gas companies making record profits !!
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Barny52 Funny that, isn't it? The mice running around on the ground scream about Biden and China and Russia and conspiracies and liberals while the oil guys sit back and listen to the money flow in. The only way gas and oil prices should be noticeably affected is when they run dry.
It’s the same here…we only turn on the heater for an hour in the evening. Hot baths and wearing warm clothes helps.

To comfort myself, I think of all those families in Ukraine who are in worse conditions today. 😓
Elessar · 26-30, M
Same but because the building's heating system is f*cked for good here

Lowest *indoor* temp so far 🥴
@Elessar I like how you end the shocks with a 🥴 face…🤭 cartoon Ele…

Same here. Its frustrating. My back hurts from the cold . I have layers on but still. My hands are freezing lol
Ugh
AntisocialTroll · 56-60, F

Gangstress · 41-45, F

AntisocialTroll · 56-60, F

Ahhh the fruits of representative democracy, power consolidation and greed.

Dark Winter
Graylight · 51-55, F
@gol979 Well, why don't you take that little hobgoblin mind of yours and develop a compendium of all the contradictions you think exist. Then you can skitter back from one to another, giving that little ball of wire in you head something to do.
gol979 · 41-45, M
@Graylight no thanks. You do a good enough job yourself
Graylight · 51-55, F
@gol979 Oh, the ever-popular "that's what you are" comeback. Not overplayed and juvenile at all.
Nowadays I put warmer clothes. We’re conserving too bec of the whole Russian Ukraine war

I just heat a small part of the house I can't afford to heat this whole place it's not big but would still be very high in the cold months now and ahead, so.. stay warm
Northwest · M
Not in our part of the country. November was one of the top 5 coldest since they started keeping records, and December is already staring out with a big freeze.
Graylight · 51-55, F
Gas and oil prices hit everyone hard in the cold months. I complain about infinitely running A/C down here, but my sister's output for oil is astonishing.

I can recommend a hooded blanket
Ravens80 · 46-50, F
No electric heat?
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
@Ravens80 Same for electric prices.

It will have a twofold effect. It's not just colder inside our homes but the outside atmosphere wil be colder because everyone is being more sparing and selective with their heating so less heat will be warming the outer environment.
kodiac · 22-25, M
You need one of these!! 24 outside 77 inside and the wood is free.
