I Am Worn Out….Just Got The Oven Door Put Back On So I Can Make Pizza For Dinner…

I feel like I’ve been through labor. I kept trying to get the hinges in the door slots and no luck, the door is heavy. Had to sit down a few times. Watched a You Tube video and still couldn’t figure it out. Finally took a pair of heavy pliers and whacked the hinge to get it to go in a bit, apparently it got pulled a bit to the side. After that it was easy. Why the hell they don’t make oven doors swing out to one side or another like a refrigerator door instead of opening down so you can’t reach the inside to clean them easily? I don’t use the self-cleaning mode because it puts off fumes that’ll probably make my birds sick.
My oven opens towards the island I can't even wedge myself between the open door and the island. So far the steam clean option has worked well enough that I haven't had to manually clean them.

@SooperSarah Haven’t heard of a steam-clean option on an oven but that sounds really good or is it something that you do to clean it?
@cherokeepatti there's a little depression built into the bottom of the oven you fill with water. You set it to steam clean, which is like self clean only not as hot or long, and so far everything has just wiped off the interior surfaces. I'm not sure if the upper oven has that option, but that door is small enough it doesn't get in my way

@SooperSarah sounds good

I don't have birds, but neither do I have a self cleaning oven. The only way I can clean it is to sit to one side or the other, and reeeeaaach! And scrub! and rinse! and repeat!

@4meAndyou I lived in one apartment complex that replaced our ovens and refrigerators. The refrigerator freezers were frost free (saved me a lot of work because I had to defrost the old one) The ovens were continuous cleaning, the only thing you had to wipe was the bottom of the oven, and you could spray that, let it set and scrape it, and then wipe it out. The sides and top would clean themselves as you used the oven leaving a bit of ash that fell on the oven floor. And I didn’t have to remove the oven door. They are cheaper than self-cleaning ovens and thats what I would want to get if I replace this stove.

That does indeed sound exhausting. Great that it's done now though. Enjoy some very hard earned pizza. 😎

Honestly, you're right about the oven door. Damn things should swing open like a fridge. I'd buy one.

That better be the best pizza you've ever had! 😅

@LucyFuhr Anything for dinner would suit me at this point. I’ve griped enough now, I need to get up and make them.

That sounds like a nightmare, well done in getting it sorted👍🏻

@cherokeepatti the last oven I had that the door opened down, it broke and I used to have to put a chair against it to keep the door closed when cooking, I tried to fix, but it was obviously a cheap one, it really didn't work, so I ended up eventually changing it

@SW-User Wondering seriously why they don’t redesign the way they put those oven doors on. I know they have the self-cleaning mode but it stinks to high heaven. We need to be able to unplug it and reach inside and clean everything. Mine would get cleaned more often if I didn’t dread the door ordeal.

@SW-User thoughts were going through my mind like that but it needed to be done. The stove still works good so keeping it till it don’t. Just like the dishwasher, it has surprised me lasting 20 years so far, have swapped out the old racks because they were getting degraded & rusty in spots.

@Stereoguy he was at him but I figured two of us would be even worse trying to handle it, maybe like getting in the way not understanding. And since that hinge was a little bit pulled out it wouldn’t have helped. He helps me a lot carrying heavy things for me now like unloading the groceries in the car and putting them up for me…like when I get a big cart of stuff from Sam’s in heavy cases. He doesn’t like to go shopping but if I am planning on buying heavy stuff I will tell him I need help with lifting and he’ll come along with me. I am not too proud to ask for help after that last injury with my sciatic nerve hurting for almost 3 months, that was not good at all. Last night when I laid down to sleep I was thinking how nothing was hurting on me and I could sleep on either side or my back whatever I wanted and move around and not feel a bit of pain….it was the coziest feeling. Nobody understands how good they had it being pain-free till they go through a painful period of time where any move can stir up bits of pain in joints or nerves.
