Does giving or receiving a "Best Comment" do anything for one, or is it just a status symbol of sorts?

The few times I have been awarded 'Best Comment' I thank the author of the post.

It's mostly used as a compliment. It used to be BA but they changed it.

It means the commenter impressed the OP the most. I've seen plenty of worst answers labelled best
