It's the digital age, nobody misses a beat.
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
@Dino11 I am 63. May I ask your age?
Dino11 · M
@FlowersNButterflies A bit older than you.
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
@Dino11 Are you empowered?
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
Your history book must have had the pages of the Dark Ages, two World Wars, and the IRA bombings torn out.
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
@MarkPaul No. Is it your position that it doesn't get worse than that? Because there was the Spanish Inquisition, witch burnings, human sacrifices and more. Really? I am a reincarnationist and believe I have lived many of those events. Perhaps I am just world-weary now.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@FlowersNButterflies Well, especially when humans and human behaviour are involved it could always get worse, but my main point is prior generations have seen many horrors. It's just that, now it is our turn. That being said, there are also many wonders for us to be thankful.
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
@MarkPaul I still hold onto the hope that life can improve for all beings.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
I try not to let it get me down.
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
@Degbeme I try, too, but my personal plate is full, leaving less energy for maintaining a healthy perspective.
Thereyouare · 56-60, M
Things are much worse people don't care anymore they're consumed only about their own needs .
This world is not going to be a place I'm willing to live in I'm glad I'm old as I am I know my time is limited
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
@smileylovesgaming No. I am terminal now, just a matter of time. You missed my euthanasia query today.
FurryFace · 61-69, M
@Thereyouare yeah i agree
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
@smileylovesgaming Most people don't live to 103 or 113. Sick people don't either. I forgot how surprising are some of the confusions of people here.
Barny52 · 56-60, M
We are just the same human race as in the passed,, nothing changes
Barny52 · 56-60, M
@FlowersNButterflies the human race as always had crackpot leaders from hitler to polpot going right ack to the romans ,,what we do have different is the media steering politics and dividing society and in my eyes the problems with drugs being available to anyone . But that's just my view that society can be pushed into doing terrible things like it always as .
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
@Barny52 We have the ability to annihilate ourselves now. So many have personal weapons and misuse them. We have technology and still we have made a choice to allow homeless, hunger and easily-cured illness to continue so misery is a choice.
Barny52 · 56-60, M
@FlowersNButterflies true about nukes and medical advances now but humans have left other humans to starve in the passed ,, Africa only in the 80s Ireland in 1800s with potatoes famine, we could do more but we dont!
SteelHands · 61-69, M
@Forgetmeknot things always get better, believe it or not. The older we get more we become afflicted with a thing called recency bias.

This involves discounting information about the past and placing more awareness on negative things in the present with a well learned aversion bias.

From every metric the world is always improving yet because we become more aware of the state of the world's complexities its more difficult to be optimistic, have less patience, and expect instant solutions to problems that grow in complexity.
SteelHands · 61-69, M
@FlowersNButterflies We all have a choice on what we focus upon. How we feel about sad things often depends on ignoring good things.

The big gigantic tellings focus on the bad because those areas are the ones that emotionally addict people to listening to them.

People tend to malinger and gawk at pain and tragedy. It's profitable for few, but leads to despair in most.
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
@SteelHands Not to be contentious, but that is not true. Brain injury and illness cause things like depression and anxiety. Need a healthy brain and nervous system to be healthy.
SteelHands · 61-69, M
@FlowersNButterflies Yes, I suppose that's true as well sometimes.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
I don't think that since the end of WW2, there have been intervals of more than a few years without a war of one sort or another somewhere in the world: coups, ethnic quarrels, insurrections, civil wars, invasions.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@FlowersNButterflies That is grim reading indeed.

Breaking down it by years seems to suggest far more individual wars, but most are single wars lasting for several years. Even so, they are wars involving the USA, with a startlingly high number on the North American continent.

Perhaps most of we foreigners tend to think only of the War of Independence and the Civil War, perhaps not hearing so much about the wars against Florida, Mexico and the "Indians".
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
@ArishMell Yes, grim. Perhaps adding to the negative acting out by people who are overwhelmed and feeling hopeless.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@FlowersNButterflies A very good point.
jackson55 · M
Turn off your TV, you’ll be much happier.
Fluffybull · F
@jackson55 Good idea. I've cut down on the news over the past couple of years and feel a lot better 👍
Fluffybull · F
@FlowersNButterflies I think you need to be on medication, tbh.......
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
@Fluffybull That is based on nothing. And what meds would that be, pray tell? :-)
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
Well stop watching the news.
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
@smileylovesgaming I don't believe ignorance is bliss, and while very difficult to maintain a sound level of awareness without anguish, there are issues in which I participate… most recently CBD Hemp Oil activism and the issue of supporting abortion… contacting my "representatives", participating in issues, researching my illness and posting findings in my support group, and more.

Knowledge is power. I understand some people can cut themselves off and be okay with it. I see it as an abdication of my social responsibility, and do not respect those who avoid painful reality. Reality is often painful. That is a truth.

But it seems you may agree that reality is growing more painful.
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
@FlowersNButterflies I never really watch the news at all. I didn't even know about the c bug till my town went on lockdown for a month. Trump I just knew him as a movie acter. I didn't know about the whole gas thing since I don't really drive my car that much at all. I can go 2 or 3 months on a full tank of gas
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
@smileylovesgaming So you are not really a full citizen, no right to complain about anything, because you are a non-participant.
Pretzel · 61-69, M
context and perspective is needed - because it is an ugly world lately

as bad as it is there is not a world war III - yet
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
@Pretzel Exactly. I don't want to exist if nukes are unleashed. Human ego destroying others is one thing that never seems to change.
pedrohedgerow · 61-69, M
I believe they are getting worse.Yet people still cast votes for unacceptable parties and policies.I am finding ignoring the maggots and relating to nature, especially the corvids,as far more beneficial than listening to those who sold their souls long, long ago.
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
@pedrohedgerow I adore my corvids! I have a family of five who eat here daily.

Good to see you, long-timer from EP!

Nature is soothing. My mobility is grinding me, but I still feed birds, cats and the neighbor's horse.
pedrohedgerow · 61-69, M
@FlowersNButterflies Hey sis!Respect and love to you.Honestly, when I walk through the high street, the crowboys call me for a cocktail sausage, and will land in insanely inappropriate places to collect them.Good Bless 🥂
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
@pedrohedgerow Cocktail sausage? LOL!
FurryFace · 61-69, M
its the Media Globally ultra fast looks like there's way more than there is
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@FurryFace I think you are forgetting what it was like back in the day when the telegraph came into vogue and started transmitting the news.
Really · 80-89, M
no right to complain about anything, because you are a non-participant.
I have the right, and a strong tendency, to complain about anything not of my own doing that - in my judgement - affects me negatively.

It's not just you. Things have gotten worse. Not bad enough for me to give up hope, but it's pretty bad right now, and bound to get worse before it gets better. But living in America, I imagine it must feel ten times worse than a lot of other places. America is tearing itself apart right now while the world watches in stunned horror (and amusement in some places).
I see things getting worse - fewer liberties, less privacy, higher costs, more criminal psychopaths running the planet.....
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
Every generation thinks things have never been worse. It's tradition. There's always been bad things going down. And, the world has always been filled with wonder. It still is.
It's hard to say in such a happy go lucky and complacent crowd.
They're making much more of this mole hill in real life and everyone is questioning this one big bully who is Earth's greatest war power. Not here. Here it's silly to know anything.
