I very rarely see these 80's or early 90's model vehicles on the road anymore. Do you ever see them?

A few I can think of are. Chevy Beretta, Pontiac Grand Am, Ford Tempo, Ford probe.. I loved Ford Probes. (My boyfriend bought a probe after I pointed them out and it was so comfortable and seemed so sleek at the time) lol

That's because most of them were in the scrap yard 10 years or less after they were bought, most American cars of that era were junk when they were built and rusted away in most places or the engines crapped out on them far before their time. You could add to those names, Chrysler K cars, Chevy Corsica, Pontiac 6000, Ford Escort, Dodge Omni, Plymouth Horizon, any GM Front wheel drive models, all total junk mobiles 😖
@SilkandLace2 And quiet. Going 65-70 mph quiet inside. I had a 2014 Hyundai it was loud inside on the highway.

@WonderGirl1 omigosh, for sure, GREAT automobile!!
@SilkandLace2 I had it from 2002 till 2013. The left shock tower rusted out. No rust on the body though.

They would be more than 30 years old so it’s not worth it to keep them fixed up after so many years.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti Where I live any vehicle over 20 years old is considered an antique. When my uncle died his truck was considered an antique. It had 2000 miles on it. The tires and battery were original.

@hippyjoe1955 He didn’t get out much did he? I knew a guy with a 20-year old Pontiac that he bought in high school. He kept it patched up but the body had started to rust. By this time he was married with a baby. His gas tank started leaking and he was talking in the break room on how to fix it. I told him if he patched it then it would probably leak somewhere else. And if he got into an accident with his baby strapped in the car seat in the back seat of the car it could very catch on fire in a wreck and he might not have time to get the baby out. He got a serious look on his face. When he got his income taxes back he used it to pay for a newer used car a couple months later.

@hippyjoe1955 a 1956 Chevy in the late 70’s was considered a classic and knew someone who had 2 that he restored and took to car shows, they weren’t even 25 years old but they were nice cars.
ihurtmychin · 26-30, M
the price to fix it would buy you a new car , + parts are rare
SilkandLace2 · 46-50, M
@ihurtmychin yes that's very true, especially with the Probe, they were, or at least the parts, were not made by Ford, but by an international outfit, the mark-up was outlandish,

I saw a Cutlass Ciera the other day and was stunned, since I do not think that I have seen one in years. The only car I regularly see from that era is a Buick Estate wagon, in super condition, like a show car, and some vintage Cadillac and Mercedes from the 80s/90s, and some Porsche 911 and 944, rarely a 928.

I think the short time-between-failure, along with their design flaws, lack of enthusiasm to fix their flaws, and lack of dependable maintenance made them far too expensive to keep on the road, and served mostly to send us to Honda and Toyota for better designed, built and maintainable automobiles. Chrysler is gone, GM would be gone except for a government bailout and Ford stays in business because of a patriotic sense that we should buy American made.
BeachGirl47 · 26-30, F
I don't see those much either but do see cars from the sixties where I live.
ronisme1 · 61-69, M
I have a 91 ford ranger. Black with xtra cab. Still going strong
robb65 · 56-60, M
@ronisme1 A year ago I bought a 90 F150. I would have preferred something older but at the time I couldn't find what I really wanted.
Quetzalcoatlus · 46-50, M
Just sold a 99 Cherokee last year. I miss it..

'Paid For' are such wonderful words.
SilkandLace2 · 46-50, M
All iconic models for those years, yes, sadly they'd be very old now, i had an 89 Probe and then a 93 Probe GT, gosh they were SO awesome, the 93 GT is still my favorite car, and I'd take that 89 back in a heartbeat!!
I recently sold a 1993 Infiniti J30. I never see those on the road either but they're kind of ugly to me anyway

Easy flip though 🤷
RedBaron · M
They're 30-40 years old, so that's a big duh.
Ambroseguy80 · 51-55, M
