That said, I think this woman was out of line with her comments. I've heard people say plenty of things at work that I didn't like. Seldom did I find it necessary to say something in response. And on those occasions when I did respond, throwing a derogatory label at someone didn't strike me as an appropriate way to handle the situation.

Now this would be different, if your group was standing within earshot of a group of ladies, where they may catch wind of a line or two, but this doesn't sound like the situation. If not, that means she went out of her way to walk across the room, to listen in. If this was the case, the next time she decides to stroll over, smile real big and act happy to see her, quickly pulling up a chair, and say, "Hey!! I saved you a ringside seat!"
