Drums, primarily. I've had to max out my limited backing vocals over the past few years, and when I write songs, it's usually on piano or guitar. I can fool people into thinking I'm good. BTW the drummer for the Black Crowes didn't pick up the sticks until he was 21....and he did just fine for himself.

@caesar7 Well...to an extent. But that's like saying that all you need to do on guitar is learn the basics and barre chords. You'll do ok, but you won't have much of a vocabulary.

@uncalled4 I realize that you can progress from there but it's a good start.

@caesar7 Agreed. Lots of people who are great at other instruments started on drums, from Steve Perry to Eddie Van Halen. I think it's because that drums affords one a basic rhythmic sense along with 4-way coordination. For me, it's 5-way when I have to sing and play!

The Linoleum
I pick at the piano, kalimba, bongos and the djembe.

I can play the celtic harp (a little, many say I "play well" but I know better; I'm still beginning to learn), tambourine, claves, shakers, etc. My instrument is my voice. I sing.

I LOVE the cello and flute but I sing with my instrument and neither, especially the flute, lends itself to my voice.

I learned the recorder in grade three, and the trombone in high school. I'm sure I'd fail hard if I tried to play either now. I've always wanted to learn the saw and the theremin.

@MsAlaineEYes I want to learn throat singing too!
@Dolimyte I first learned about it.....on Big Bang Theory; actually; the Theremin also. What an educational sitcom!!!

@MsAlaineEYes indeed. Some of the things Sheldon said really stuck in my head, even if he was being obnoxious while saying it, or maybe because of it.🤔

Drums and some bass

@caesar7 Cool! I recently played along with all of Marillion's "Misplaced Childhood" to stay in shape for upcoming gigs.

@uncalled4 Love that album and played along with it. I am a big fan and idolize Bill Bruford. So if you master him, you can play anything proggy..lol

Speaking about another matter.....Ian Mosley is great! Saw them In Toronto a few years ago. Hogarth is a great show man ....but still he is not Fish

It’s never too late to start!

My 18 year old son just bought himself a ukelele and he’s learning from YouTube videos. I have played piano for 47 years. I also play flute and clarinet. My daughter plays flute, piano, clarinet, violin, guitar, and bass guitar. My youngest son is a drummer.
