I remember when I was growing up. I had to call my married stepsister for something or other. Her (at the time) 3-year-old son grabbed the phone and yelled into it, before I could say hello, "Hellowhothehellis this?" and then he laughed. I said, "Ricky?"

"Who's dis?" was the reply.

I said, "This is your AUNT. Can I talk to Mom, please?"

He put her on the phone. She was embarrassed and aggravated, and I never asked her what the outcome was when she hung up the line. I don't know if she was mad at the way he answered the phone, or something else. and even today, I don't know if I really wanted to know.

It鈥檚 not easy taking care of our parents. My mom and in-laws have passed, but there is something bittersweet about the roles being reversed.
Butterflykisses2451-55, F
@trackman11 yes she and I get along well.
Suggestion: Maybe next time you are not sure if you really are out of an item, go ahead and pick it up anyway. It won't go to waste and it will be there for future use so you don't have to go out and get it.

I'm wondering if she was asleep when you called and the ring alarmed her and made her answer roughly. I'm also not sure if when I got home, I might have said, "Mom. You don't have to yell in the phone. I can hear just fine." lol
Butterflykisses2451-55, F
@LadyGrace thank you.
I don't think I'd take it personally, although I understand this hurts. I'm sorry you had to experience this. She was definitely out of sorts. Had nothing to do with you. 馃
Butterflykisses2451-55, F
@LadyGrace yes she was sleeping when I got home.Shes also stressed she told me later.
@Butterflykisses24 You know how I figured that? Because without meaning to, when I'm sitting in my chair and I may be half asleep or else I am thinking deeply on something, and the maintenance man comes up here and suddenly bangs on my door real hard, it scares me so much, that without even thinking I yell real loud, "Who is it!!" And it sounds like I'm the meanest person in the whole world. Hahaha It really catches me off-guard.
Butterflykisses2451-55, F
@LadyGrace ok.Shes usually kind. She doesnt usually cuss either.Shes also had a bad day.
MaryJanine61-69, F
Don't let it get you down. Maybe your mom had her hands in something and she had to rush to get to the phone. It is aggravating to be in the middle of something and the phone goes off. Happened to me yesterday. I was making the bed and was balancing on my knees to stretch the sheet when it rang, I went to the phone and all it was was a stupid sales call. I checked the caller I.D. and it was an unknown number, so I let it ring itself out (at 8:30 AM!).
Butterflykisses2451-55, F
@MaryJanine ok she's sleeping now, maybe she was tired.
Ironicman56-60, M
Your mum's being a bit saucy with her temper, I wouldn't relish being in her shoes when she next tucks in to cod and chips and realises the ketchup bottles empty.
Butterflykisses2451-55, F
@Ironicman Yes I got it.Now have enough. My fridge is kinda small,so I hate buying extra if it's refrigeratored.
Ironicman56-60, M
@Butterflykisses24 Ketchup, to refrigerate or not to refrigerate. Now that is the question.

could be early onset Alzheimer's

"People with Alzheimer鈥檚 have trouble doing everyday things like driving a car, cooking a meal, or paying bills. They may ask the same questions over and over, get lost easily, lose things or put them in odd places, and find even simple things confusing. As the disease progresses, some people become worried, angry, or violent."
Butterflykisses2451-55, F
@NightsWatch it is isolated so far but will watch it

Once in a blue moon someone acts out of character, it could be anything or nothing at all. If you notice this unusual behaviour happening more frequently , then you might have cause for concern. I'm sure she meant nothing by it. I hope everything turns out fine.
Butterflykisses2451-55, F
@SW-User thanks She's sleeping now.Maybe she was tired.Who knows

My mother in law moved in with us12 years ago. She is generally sweet but she is losing her memory and is in first stages of dementia. 91 years old. It鈥檚 not easy for caregivers
Butterflykisses2451-55, F
@Mk8155 ok will keep watch.I recacted very calmly. My mother is 77
indyjoe56-60, M
You are in the 46-50 year age range, so your mother is probably about or at least 20-25 years older. What I am saying is that going by your post and description, could it be possible your mother could have or be developing a problem? It could be mental/neurological or even physical that could be triggering these mood changes. Perhaps you (or someone she trusts and will listen to) could talk her into getting a complete going over and work up...just to make sure everything is okay.
Butterflykisses2451-55, F
@indyjoe She's lived here about a year as her physical health isn't the greatest.I honestly can't say she's normally out of wack. Its just kinda odd.Im kinda easy going and so is she.
indyjoe56-60, M
@Butterflykisses24 That's why I said a workup wouldn't hurt. If her physical ailments are the cause (or she has developed new ones), or something neurological (like Alzheimer's or dementia for example) is the problem then early treatment can be highly beneficial. The test may show she is fine and that she was just having a bad day...but it is better to be sure, better safe than sorry.

Personality changes are sometimes a symptom of Alzheimer's
Butterflykisses2451-55, F
