Do you have friends or family members with opposite political views?

How do you get along?

My boyfriend's parents are avid trump supporters and I'm over here just cringing. 😖
yes and religious views and many more

variety is the spice of life

[@980195,IseeBeautifulThingsAroundYou] It's what makes the world go round. 🌎️

I got along just fine with all my conservative relatives... until they figured out I was no longer Christian that is.

I have had no word from any of them now for thirteen years, going close to fourteen years really.

I found out recently that one had died by accident.... she died four years ago. 😕

I have to do a lot of nodding and yessing to people when they shove politics/religion in my face. The truth is that I may agree with a few of their points, but their relgious-style fervor and direct quoting of cable/network news talking points diminishes their credibility.

Yes. I actually don’t know any other Libertarians irl.

[@436099,MorbidCynic] I have a few friends. The levelheadedness is interesting
Rooster · M
Yes I do but I don't discuss politics around them. They respect my views as I do theirs.

My family are Republicans and I have to laugh every time they start talking about Trump. I just can't believe how completely ignorant and out-of-touch from reality they are. Thier mind-numbing stupidity leave me exhausted at times.

Yes. We just don’t discuss politics most of the time, but whenever we do, we always just agree to disagree. We’re not so toxic or intolerant that we engage in senseless bickering like your typical people who make their politics their religion.
rjc36 · 56-60, M
Yes I do. My brother and a few friends and coworkers. We all have our opinions of what is right and how we think things work. That is just how it goes. I may not agree with them but still listen to what they have to say even if they don't want to consider my point.
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
I do not know any relatives who support Trump.

I know some Christian ones, though, which is awkward at times. My grandma had photos of the Pope on her walls. But she hates Republicans.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
Thankfully my family and I are all on the same page. I have a couple of casual friends who are conservative but nobody I'm particularly close to. Sorry you have to deal with that :\
Steve42 · 51-55, M
Yes. Both sides of aisle, while neither see that choosing either side is a loosing proposition. They use it to divide the people and line their pockets.

Yeah. Not really. I don't put myself in situations with people whose beliefs I find repugnant. Including family.
JBird · F
I think my family as a whole oppose the extremist government which I am proud. 😊 We hate Trump too despite not being Americans. 😆
Gelartsyyy · 22-25, F
Yup. My dad and his gf are pro-duterte.
Gelartsyyy · 22-25, F
[@812868,kingfish27] how so?
Kingfish28 · 26-30, M
[@1008717,Gelartsyyy] He's a great leader.

Best you can do is to steer clear of sensitive topics and hope that they do as well
Thingschange4444 · 51-55, M
I have. It's designed to create division though so we avoid politics as much as possible.
Yea. All of them are pretty far right wing. And religious.
4meAndyou · F
My son hates Trump, so we just don't speak about politics.
Powderflask · 26-30, M
Yes, my cousin is hard core anti-gun, anti-hunting.
BearDownChicago · 41-45, M
We just dont talk about it. We know it just gets people upset
SW User
Yes, I have to be careful talking to my brother.
FloorGenAdm · 46-50, M
