I know how much you hurt. I lived through the same kind of crap. It’s not easy but you have to realize that you can’t change your mother, and she will probably never change herself. I learned that when something sucks you need to let it suck. Don’t try to bury your sadness or deny the pain you feel inside. Let it hurt but remember that you deserve to be treated better. That might not be the most profound bit of advice you’ll ever receive, but I hope it helps a little. I hope it helps a little to know that I care too.

I spent over 40 years chasing four words from my father. To this day, I have yet to hear them, and I've been recognized and applauded by senators, congressmen, company CEOs, non-profit organizations, etc.

So, how come I can be lauded by my peers and society in general, and yet, my father cannot express "I'm proud of you"....?

I simply recognized that he was never ever going to say it, and decided that my life would be much happier if I stopped trying to live my life to impress him, and started living my life to impress ME.

That was about 10 years ago. Strangely enough, about 5 years after I did that, guess who decided that he should probably invest in the two boys he sired, and find out exactly what kinds of men they turned out to be...? (His side of the family is famous for "out of sight, out of mind" mentality... so, once we left home after graduating, we never looked back, and he didn't bother looking).

I am glad to say that my father and I are closer now than we ever were... although I've still never heard him say that. ;)

That has to be a terrible feeling and I’m sure you are very hurt, but you need to focus on you take care of you... push forward a live your life the best you can... you shouldn’t have to compare your self to your sisters... sounds like you are pretty successful your self you said you provide for your self and take care of your self... that’s doing good... I wish you well..

If she would not be your mother I would suggest you to leave .. but now you can not do anything to gain her love except keep loving her probably oneday she would understand you when her materialist world would vanish before her eyes

@MushroomFaerie I really can't stop crying. Am stressed and started to hate my self
@Sarahblack that's what happens when you don't get what every child deserves. I'm so sorry. It might help if you google daughters of narcisstic mothers, sounds like your mother has some traits at the least.
