17 dead in Florida high school shooting .... gun control/debate will definitely take over the news again !

Are you for or against? I personally hate guns!! But I do believe in your right of owning them should they be readily available by others !! Still I hate guns!
SwarmSona · F
The idea should never be to "take away guns" since that's just never going to fly. People shouldn't even bring it up as a talking point. That's not going to happen, arguing about it is a waste of time, stop.

What we need to focus on is preventing these things from happening. And if that's not your focus you're apart of the issue period. If we have to edit the Constitution, which isn't something new, to get it done then so be it. But I'm sure out of the 350+ million of us shit heads we can find a solution that doesn't involve that.

But whatever we're just going to hear people crying and screaming for another week and a half.
Lolco · 36-40, M
@looking4thesun I thought the same
@Lolco its a common mentality in the states unfortunately
SwarmSona · F
@looking4thesun They are the problem. Everytime this happens absolutely nothing changes, why? Because the debate gets stuck on taking away guns or not. The Politicians act the exact same way because they're thinking about reelection and so they don't do much if anything. A week and a half passes something else catches the hive minds attention and we're off. Some time later another school/mall/whatever shooting and the same shit happens.

As if my worry can bring back a child, a brother, mother, an uncle, a cousin. 50 fkin people get murdered an hour accross the globe and NO AMOUNT OF WORRY WILL BRING THEM BACK. Let's not even get into other preventable deaths.

So yeah it's fuckin terrible for those families, and we can't resurrect their loved ones. But what we can do is make sure they didn't die in vain by fighting to prevent another occurrence in everyway possible. We're not doing that as a country. We all have responsibility.

But whatever
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
I think guns should be legal but for Christ sake, does EVERYONE need a gun? You can buy a firearm without identification, without a background check, without a permit or a license. The guy who shot up the Orlando gay bar was on the United States domestic terrorism watch list for being an ISIL sympathizer but he was allowed to buy a gun.
abe182 · 46-50, M
@BlueMetalChick I agree with you. My only concern is that Ted Kennedy was on the no fly list and he had a very difficult time getting off of it. But it's very easy to get on it. People with the same name get accidentally put on it. The no fly list is just a broken and flawed system.. but one that has great potential!
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@abe182 The no-fly list is one thing. But the domestic terrorism watch list is a whole different story, it's a lot harder to get marked for it.
abe182 · 46-50, M
@BlueMetalChick I'm from Missouri. Did you know they wanted to put the entire state on the terrorism watch list? Google it.
But yeah I see your point its much better than the no fly list.
Pherick · 41-45, M
Maybe, Maybe I could see pistols for home defense. The militarization of rifles though is pretty much just a way to make guns profitable.

I would ask anyone who disagrees to watch some of the videos taken by students coming out of Florida. Over the screaming and crying you hear it, "thump, thump, thump", steady and ongoing, the firing of whatever weapon this person used. It was incredibly chilling to me to listen to it.

Listen to it and really ask yourself if that is what we need in this country, weapons that can be outfitted to look and act almost like ones the military uses.
@abe182 same old rhetoric.. you will never learn.. no worries my man.. have fun with your guns
abe182 · 46-50, M
@looking4thesun same old rhetoric, ban the guns. You have tunnel vision my friend.
Pherick · 41-45, M
@abe182 Not shockingly really, we feel like you are the one with NRA tunnel vision
the states has had 18 school shootings this yr alone.. it is only the middle of feb. when are they going to wake up about gun control? all the stupid and ignorant quotes about how it is not guns that kill people its people that kill people. just glad I do not live there.. it is like they are immune to these senseless killings
@katielass sorry hun ,get your facts straight.. there has been exactly 18 school shooting this yr. not all are mass shootings but 18 all the same
katielass · F
@looking4thesun You can say it 50 times, hell 1,000 times but it still isn't true, oh useful idiot.
@katielass funny how anyone that disagrees with a gun nut, is an idiot. just wait until one day it is your son or daughter laying dead because of your archaic laws
KaysHealingPath · 36-40, F
You know how we have to have our cars inspected every year for emissions by the EPA or we can’t renew our plates?
They should do something similar for all guns/ gun owners.
Guns inspected every year to 18 months from the date of purchase.

There should also be a mental health test done in order to purchase a gun and a follow up test every 5 years.

If the guns will be in a home with more people than just the homeowner they too should also have to pass a background check.

And that’s just what i have at the top of my head
katielass · F
Focusing on the guns is ignoring the problem. There is a reason these things never happened when I was in high school and we had guns and fewer laws. Oh, we had nut bags too. Can you guess what the problem is?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@katielass do yourself a favor, Google the Dickey amendment of 1996. The congress specifically restricted the CDC from such research and from promulgating gun control!!! Before you say I am wrong, do a little reading about the subject!
katielass · F
@samueltyler2 I am 100 steps ahead of you. The government has not banned anyone, including the cdc, from studying why people go on shooting sprees. They can study anything they want, what they may not do is violate our privacy rights and get physicians to do their dirty work and report who owns guns and who doesn't. oblamo tried the same thing and he was shot down by the court. Since you don't seem to understand the details and don't seem able to differentiate, I suggest you refrain from embarrassing yourself further.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@katielass I will not argue with someone who is so totally wrong and obviously refuses to face reality. If gun ownership is so wonderful, WHY NOT ALLOW IT TO BE STUDIED? Please read the Dickey amendment before you call me out on this.
What I find unbelievable is that these incidents continue to occur without any action taking place.

How many more children need to die? It took one school shooting in uk to bring about stronger gun laws here. It hasn't happened since.
@katielass I take the value of a human life above any right to own a gun.

Always.
katielass · F
@InOtterWords I wouldn't be sitting there acting all sanctimonious dear, you might get to live to see your head chopped off.
@katielass 🙄🤦🏽‍♀️
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
Tell me why a 19 year old needs an assault weapon??
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@samueltyler2 To be fair, the question is usually "why DON'T you need" something as opposed to "why DO you need" something. But in this case, there's a pretty good argument to be made for why someone doesn't need a gun. Since we've clearly proven we're not mature or responsible enough to make use of them properly, as least, not enough of us are.
Strong believer in the second amendment but extensive psychological background checks should be mandatory
@samueltyler2 who said I supported trump...quit jumping to conclusions...lol the second amendment is there to protect citizens from a tyranny by the government if citizens don’t need guns then why don’t we take away them from the police and the military? And you do realize if someone is psychotic enough to shoot up a school they’re most certainly going to make a bomb or stab people if guns aren’t there. This is mental health issue
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Insomniac100 first of all, in the UK the cop on the beat doesn't carry a gun, and they are no less safe. Second, the cops carry guns as part of their jobs and are trained how and when to use them.

Why not at least require all guns to be locked up?
jeancolby · 31-35, F
@samueltyler2 I believe your king once tried to take our guns away, WHY? so we couldn't protect ourselves from YOUR tyrannical government. It didn't work then, it won't work now.

@IstillmissEP people that feel the need to own guns I feel for the most part are cowards if they feel less of a man without 1 .... that’s actually where my feelings begin..

@IstillmissEP that’s their job , not their right
Vendetta · 31-35, M
I love guns, however I do feel that there should be regulations put in place to try to prevent this kind of tragedy.
abe182 · 46-50, M
I own two guns. They sit on the shelf and guess what.. They don't move. They don't make a sound and they certainly haven't killed anyone yet. Or at least that I'm aware of. I better go check on them.
*runs and checks*
Lolco · 36-40, M
Whatever brings you peace of mind @abe182
SW-User
bolt/lever/pump-action long rifles and shotguns, preferably with fixed magazines, are the only firearms that should be available to civilians
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@SW-User I think revolvers should be legal too.
SW-User
@BlueMetalChick I was thinking about that too, but they're good for crime. But otherwise, yeah, they're no good for rampage shootings.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@SW-User I once shot myself in the ass with a revolver by accident because I’m incredibly stupid. Luckily it was only a .22
It's too late for this debate, the guns will be out there forever no matter what anyone says or does.
@samueltyler2 As soon as some politician gets approval to remove guns, the idiots will start burying them in their back yard and rushing off to buy more. It's like a drug, once they own a gun, they are hooked for life, just having it there makes them feel powerful.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@UreBesFrend i can't allow myself to write off humanity. I spent too much of my life dealing with these issues to give up.
It needs to be handled the way Gorbachev handled USSR, get yourself elected, then take it on, do not make it part of your campaign until it is too late, otherwise you never get elected. There are too many people addicted to guns in the US now. Its a serious illness.
