Why all the emo scene kids thought being depressed was cool and now since they are middle-aged and really depressed now they hate depression?

I remember some were forcing themselves to be depressed now they see what depression really is and don't want it anymore.

they probably thought being depressed was cool for same reasons people now think being a victim or having mental illnesses is cool.
Either way, i dont get any of it
