How was your life when you turned 40?

hunkalove · 61-69, M Best Comment
I finally had to accept the fact that I was one of life's total losers and I was never going to amount to anything. I gave up on my girlfriend after 8 years, got the only job I could find (minimum wage retail), and stopped speaking to my friends. That was 30 years ago. I don't know why I still bother.
TessDun · 36-40, F
@carolinehugz This gives me some kind of relief,🤗☺️
hunkalove · 61-69, M
@carolinehugz I told myself when I turned 70 I would leave SW because no one that old should be wasting what little time they have left on a website like this. I'm now 71, but I'll leave my age as 60-69 until the grim reaper drags me away.
carolinehugz · 46-50, F
@hunkalove I didn't know you could backdate you're displayed age on here

I was in a deep depression and my ex would berate me every time I tried to express my feelings about turning 40. Pretty much hated myself tbh.
summersong · F
@TessDun it is when you feel stuck in your life and can’t see a way out. And it’s even worse when you are made to feel stupid about feeling that getting older is hard by the person who is supposed to be a source of support.
TessDun · 36-40, F
@summersong Yes I feel you. Did you break up with him at that time? I hope you are in peaceful state now.
summersong · F
@TessDun in a much better place now though I should’ve left him earlier.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
It was stressful. I had been married for just over a year and the transition from living alone to being a husband and stepfather to a surly teenager was difficult. It was also about this time that my health took enough of a turn that I needed to seek out medical assistance, which is when they discovered the tumor. Figuring out what to do about it was its own kind of horror show. Overall, it was not a good time.
TessDun · 36-40, F
@DunningKruger I hope all your relationships and health are okay now. 🙏

It was really hard on me physically and emotionally. I was working full time and had 4 kids under 10.
ButterRobot · 51-55, M
I was miserable..i turned it around though.
TessDun · 36-40, F
@ButterRobot 👍😊

My life was very busy. We adopted our 4 grandchildren when I was in my early 30's, so when I was 40 it was all about getting 4 kids to school on time, cooking, cleaning, doing laundry for a family of 6. Then after school hours of homework, and getting supper cooked, and the dishes done, so I could drop into bed around 10pm. Then it began all over in the morning. :-)

40 wasn't bad, I was still in excellent physical shape, and looking around at others that age that looked more like 50 or older I felt pretty good
ArtieKat · M
Just another number - and isn't 40 the new 21?

Lumberjack70 · 56-60, M
I was having a few struggles back then. Thirteen years on, I’m in a way better place mentally and physically. I like myself better these days.
TessDun · 36-40, F
@Lumberjack70 Good that eventually everything turned out just fine 🤗
Lumberjack70 · 56-60, M
@TessDun thank you 😊 I hope 40 treats you very well!
TessDun · 36-40, F
@Lumberjack70 I hope too 😐🥺
I was in my prime then. I was doing well in my career and actually had a social life again.
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
It sucked. Was stuck in a state I detest, wasn't working, and was in a miserable relationship.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
About the same as when I turned 30 lol...50 is next. I somehow think 50 might be the best. We will see.
RoxClymer · 41-45, M

life happened and Bang your world is upside-down
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
I'll let you know in 8 years. If Similar Worlds is still around, that is 😆.
carolinehugz · 46-50, F
Uneventful in the end but most of my life's ups and downs happened to me before that.
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
I'll get back to you in a few years on that😜
TessDun · 36-40, F
@ozgirl512 I'll wait 😂
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@TessDun I imagine it will be like turning twenty twice🤔
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
New beginnings. Both my parents had passed away in 2000.

It was fine until I turned 50! ;-)
Pretty much the same as it was at 39
KuroNeko · 41-45, F
Last year, in lockdown. It was good and bad. Plenty of time to reflect after a break up, but not much opportunity for moving on.
TessDun · 36-40, F
@KuroNeko 🥺I hope you are feeling better now
KuroNeko · 41-45, F
@TessDun I am, thank you. I'm feeling ready to say yes to new things.
TessDun · 36-40, F
@KuroNeko That is nice to hear🤗
Heartlander · 80-89, M
That was 40 years ago for me, and it was the worse decade of my entire life. I'd love to get those years back and put them to better use.
OldBrit · 61-69, M
I was into my nadir of my alcoholism - within 2 years I'd have been through rehab and reset my life
It was great. I wish I could return to it, and know what I know now.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
My daughter was just a little girl, good times :)
Gangstress · 41-45, F

I was in college and wondered why the conference hall was opened and people were gathered in there. The huge doors were open, so I went in. To my amazement, I saw a reporter on a huge TV screen with a plane crashing through two buildings in the background. I asked a professor of mine about what the hell that was all about, and he said, that two planes crashed in the twin towers in the US. The rest is self-explanatory. It really bummed me out and made me realize how fragile things can happen on a whim. The world changed before my eyes. It affected me deeply and still is along with issues like the environment, climate, overpopulation etc... All these events from 911 onward changed my life completely.
TessDun · 36-40, F
@caesar7 Can’t imagine the post trauma caused by that event . In just a matter of seconds too many lives were lost and seeing how it happened was really nightmarish. I hope you are fine now.
caesar7 · 61-69, M
@TessDun Yes...I am but it still affect me on a different scale how the world has changed. The year before 911 was the Y2K crisis...now we have major issues to deal with. I worry about the kind of world the next generations will have to deal with. My time is pretty well done. I pray 🙏 that a better world will be inherited by them.
