In many cases, start training when you're very young. Go through how many tests of your skill before you even make the Olympic team. Train for four years, with no time to think about much else. There is only one Gold and only three medals altogether....

ya and one stupid mishap can ruin your chances. an injury, an equipment failure, a wardrobe malfunction... brutal kind of pressure but an honour just to be good enough imo.

@NiftyWhite It certainly is an honor...but when you consider how much they put into it and may very well get little or nothing of material value out of it, it's pretty darned amazing. And you're right - one tiny thing and it's over.
