Only so fast you can slin that dial with your finger. And damn if half the time was in too big a hurry and didnt turn that little circle hole all the way and screw up my call
Jeephikelove · 46-50, F
@Bexsy lol exactly!! I think I got through like 3 times.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@Jeephikelove They pick up a random caller and say "You're the ninth! You win!" anyway.
“Please deposit 10 cents or this call will be interrupted.”

We had a rotory phone when i was a kid, and was a party line , when i bought my current house 22 years it had them still, so i kept it for nostalgia thinking it was cool, did not last long at all, miss one number and start over or too many zeros suscked so it didn't last long

Want to freak them out ? Show them a typewriter
chuck7882 · 61-69, M
@Driver2 true story. My town's school system had their computers hacked just before final exams. The kids had to take thier finals on, gasp, paper and pen. Parents and students protested saying the results shouldnt count because of the hardship

I remember calling Sylvias mother on one of those. The operator kept nagging for more money. So annoying 🙄

Accessible contact sources of then.😇
Pay-phones and Telephone Booths, I miss them. Telephone Booths/Phone Box were better as they gave people privacy. Pay-phones were quite open.🙂

I took my kid on a tour of the USS Hornet, an old navy ship used to bring in the Apollo astronauts, and showed him how to use the rotary phone that was on it.

My niece was being snarky with my middle sister (not her mother) when they were visiting and Sis had a question about her new smart phone. I challenged my niece to call my iPhone number from my landline, using this phone (which still works):

Those were the times when you had to keep change on hand to make a phone call while you were out

I was in Walmart and the guy in front of me was paying by check. The young cashier didn't know what it was and the manager had to show her
chuck7882 · 61-69, M
@Lilnonames I handed a young cashier a twenty dollar bill for a 17.50 purchase. The computer in the register was down and she asked me what is 20 minus 17.50?
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@chuck7882 OMG 🤣
