From what I've learned about commie blocks, they were actually surprisingly based.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@BlueVeins makes sense, they were just functional. Sure, they didn't have time or money to put in the beauty and the details. But it's not like we aren't doing the same right now, even though we have the resources. Like I wrote in his post, just because in commercial centers they use glass, it doesn't make them prettier.
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
I agree the new architecture in the USA is horrendously ugly and bland. @HannibalAteMeOut

We all must know the user so we can all troll them now lol

@HannibalAteMeOut that guy is a total conservative prick in general lol
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@deadgerbil "more uglier" 😶
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@deadgerbil makes sense why he got so triggered lol I guess he expected people to comment "communism is ugly" and not some normal non political replies.
Domking · 61-69, M
Both Communism and Capitalism tried to turn people into machines, robots , and only the individual freedom side of democracy was saving us.
The soviet block life was repressive , fewer colours, less number of choice & if one doesn't like then one is stamped as anti-people.
Now, capitalism , with information technology in its hand, again trying to rob freedom & trying to take control of our lives.

Both same kinda ugly but practical to house many people on a rather small space.
He blocked us for disagreeing with him how embarrassing 😂

HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@SW-User hahah girl 😂 I didn't even disagree with him that Soviet architecture is ugly. But so is most of modern architecture. Maybe he's too sheltered from the world.
SW-User
@HannibalAteMeOut I think he expected something like "Communist buildings bad... capitalist buildings good" and not an elaborate answer 😂
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@SW-User "if we keep electing liberals, our buildings will look like this" 😂
chrisCA · M
Some people here are just weird.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@chrisCA tell me about it
SW-User
Those other buildings are more modern *and* two of them have balconies that I can see.
I think the first is actually nice, don't like the second as that is very brutalist and the third is meh. All three have the advantage of being in better condition though, even if two of them are similar to the first example and not very attractive.

SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
I do think the first one is kinda unorthodox but I understand where you're coming from. Also notice that the pic of it is intentionally left without color correction.
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@HannibalAteMeOut True. Every house where I live looks the same. It's boring.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@SinlessOnslaught yeah depending on the area if everything looks the same it ends up being boring. I remember there is a castle village in Turkey, it was built for tourists but it's abandoned. All the buildings are like disney castles but the area as a whole looks so weird in a bad way.
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@HannibalAteMeOut Any pics?
AnonymousJSS · 22-25, F
Wow they're cool.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@AnonymousJSS not my cup of tea really but to me all these styles look similar
AnonymousJSS · 22-25, F
@HannibalAteMeOut I like weird buildings.

I’m thinking of architecture triggers someone, you’re probably better off being blocked.
Really · 80-89, M
Is that building from the Soviet era? There is no Soviet now 🙂. What do you think of these?

HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@Really of course there is no Soviet union anymore. The buildings are not really my cup of tea but I do admire the thought that went into them. I think the architecture suits the place too (wide plains, big spaces etc).
I feel the same about Dubai tbh. I do admire the fact it was all built in a small amount of time and I admire the innovation etc. But it isn't a place I'd like to live in and find beautiful.

They are all very ugly.🤮
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
That third one bugs me the most.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
That third building is so weird. It’s like Lego blocks. What a thing to be blocked for. Typical SW though.

Not everything from the Soviet era sucked

@SW-User yes. And have you seen their metros?
SW-User
@HannibalAteMeOut I had not, the roof in that second pic is cool
Russian Constructivism was a particularly cool period in both art and architecture, kind of parallel to the Bauhaus era
The opening scene in Tenet has a facility built in Estonia for the sailing portion of the summer Olympics in 1980 (now pending restoration) standing in for an opera house in Ukraine, and it is pretty cool too

The first and third buildings are rather ugly.
empanadas · 31-35, M
The third picture triggers me. We shouldn't be building Lego style buildings
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@empanadas I'm sure the workers were confused af but poor guys were just following orders
empanadas · 31-35, M
@HannibalAteMeOut the architect must have been high AF or really liked Picasso

@MsAnnThropy I don't even remember, first (and last) time I came across this person. If you see any post on soviet architecture, that was it.
