What makes someone good at conversation?

Some of you should be taking notes
LucyFuhr · 56-60, F
knowing your "audience" and what they're open to talking about
Giving others the time to talk.
And responding to what they say, not how it relates entirely to you.

And yes ....the second but I'm REALLY bad at 😞
nedkelly · 61-69, M
Listening skills, and being none judgemental
ritzzz · 18-21, F
@nedkelly listening is important. sometimes you have to be judging tho.
range, having an interest, being able to connect seemingly unrelated topics. at least to me; that doesn't really seem to work so well for me anymore. I still enjoy it.
ritzzz · 18-21, F
@stound all those seem pretty important
@ritzzz I'd think so. maybe I don't do it as well as I thought I once did.

Conversation is a two way street.
LISTENING and engaging in the subject are necessary.
Keeping up with current events, reading a lot or keeping informed on subject matters all contribute to being a good conversationalist

Listen, listen and list and then respond, not react.

So many like to talk and take over the whole conversation and make it all about themselves.

When you chat and it's midnight, next thing you know, it's 5:45 am and you hate to say goodnight.
Listening, questioning, engaging, commenting, but most of all listening
CaptainKirk · 41-45, M
Not being terrified of human interaction
Understanding, respect and honesty.

Having...content.

@CrustyDDingus Definitely important!
AngelKrish · 26-30, M
Honesty and politeness during chat....other person should feel comfortable with you, give them enough room...

Well I added you in my circle as you are genetically Indian 😌
Alison · 18-21, F
Being funny and reading the vibe. Listening to the main points. Not forcing stuff counts as well.
ritzzz · 18-21, F
@Alison not forcing stuff is a super important one I haven't seen on here yet.
Alison · 18-21, F
@ritzzz I dunno, it's just something that happens. U just realise: I really like talking to this person, u know?
Thespis · M
Listening, asking furthering questions, since of humor, compassion and understanding, and open mind to name a few.
an equal give and take--not unlike improv in that one reacts to the other and the conversation unfolds
You are on SW there won't be any good conversation lol

@Carazaa I would put up talking about something that I am not interested in if I care about the person I'm talking to.

@MooMooCarls Working to keep the convo going is key, otherwise there's nothing to say.
