My friend made me happy today
I posted in the morning about an old friend who contacted me out of the blue... Well, we exchanged some more messages and now I am a bit hyper out of excitement.
I asked her if we could meet;
Her first answer was; I am in Somalia.... I got a bit upset.. It is because I know this girl has a lot of potential, and she has always been extraordinary and independent, and so when she said that, my impression was that she probably got married and went back to her home country... Where she probably won't be able to fulfill her potential or be herself well... because... of the culture and all..
Turns out, she is there only to get some papers, but her career actually took her to NewYork!!!!! She lives there, she is still single, and she works in the film industry!! Not only that, she travels a lot because of her job! I need to know more about her story and how she got there, and how she dealt with her conservative family! But I am soooooo freaking happy and excited that she is not another miserable story like all my high school friends who settled for nothing and that she is doing something with her life and is all independent and FREE... She is one of the few success stories, and she made me so proud.. It is true, I feel proud and happy when I see other women succeed in getting out of the cultural and religious prison..
The most exciting part is that when she found out that I will be in Canada next year, she told me that a film she is working on will be part of the Toronto film festival and so I am definitely meeting her when that happens!!!! I could imagine, it is going to be a blast for us to meet after all of these years in Canada, with completely different lives that none of us imagined having when we shared that class room in high school.
I am thankful she remembered me at this particular time... When I am stressed over the move and feel the burden of the huge risk I am taking... She totally restored some of my confidence and fueled me with some excitement to take this step.
