yep. I find all random declarative statements made by people with little context tend to be the exact reverse of reality.

I used to think it was just a crude self defense tool, a mind blurting out something it wants to pretend, but that would imply the people doing this are kinda moronic and self unaware, and that doesn't always fit what I've seen. As much as I detest these kinds of people, they arent idiots, most are quite cunning at deception actually.

The truth is a bit darker than that, I suspect. These people put out these grandiose claims, not just to try to decieve, but to try to reveal who cannot be deceived. The people who buy into their bullshit, they instinctively know these are the morons they can use against the ones who show doubt.
