Do you ever temporarily mute your friends…

when they’re going on a tear about a subject you’d rather not read about, like bodily functions, or religion, politics ? You still like them, and they’re capable of discussing other topics.
Asking for yet another friend. 😅
SageWanderer · 70-79, M
I just scroll by and ignore it but not them. To be honest, lately I have been so disagreeable that mostly refraining from commenting on posts. Just hitting the emoji button.
JustNik · 51-55, F
I’ve only done that once and it hurt my heart. We weren’t terribly close, but I liked the person they were. They had just become unable to talk about anything else and made it clear anyone who didn’t feel the same was no friend of theirs. Happens a lot in this country now. 🤷‍♀️
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
ATTENTION ANY FRIENDS OF MINE WHO THINK I MAY HAVE MUTED THEM AT ONE POINT

TRUST ME IT'S NOT YOU, IT'S THE OTHER GUY
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
Whomever downvoted this, your mom's a ho
I've never muted friends, but I can understand why you might, any of the things you listed would instantly prompt a scroll by from me. I don't want to get into things with my friends that we could very possibly disagree on.
I come on here for some relief from the real world and to connect with people. Happy to talk about their problems but can we please leave politics, religion etc outside the door by our filthy, real world covered shoes?
Bananaxx · 31-35
I also like to mute myself
SW-User
@Bananaxx I got ear pods pro, in noise cancellation its sort of like that
Bananaxx · 31-35
@SW-User i need that but again it sounds expensive and i am poor so dollar store earplugs might do the magic for me hahaha.
SW-User
@Bananaxx I never bought mine but I know they are expensive - I am spoiled I know - but they work great and I love mine
HannahSky · F
Yeah need a break sometimes from people.
Yes. I call it my "Oh, for Pete's sake!" point.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Never had the problem of not ignoring posts that I simply am not interested in any way. And one of those type of posts I'm simply not interested in.

So I have yet to use either mute or even block options on users.

Not that I judge any if they should do so. Not everyone can do as I do, nor would I want everyone to be like me.
Piper · 61-69, F
No, not yet anyway. I've muted some users, but not anyone I think of as a friend.
Classified · M
I've done that, but now we can mute individual posts, which actually works better, because I still see the replies to muted people in the feed. 😑
Classified · M
@Peaches I still mute people when they post crap too often. 😅
Peaches · F
@Classified I would still see the comments from people I muted, so I stopped doing it.👀
Classified · M
@Peaches You can even see their replies? 👀
I thought you could only see replies directed at them 😭
Rutterman · 46-50, M
No, I've never muted any friends, or anyone else for that matter. I might skip posts that don't appeal to me, but I can't see muting someone for that. I suspect that I have been muted by a friend or two, though.
iamelijah · 26-30, M

They all don't like to talk about the topics you just mentioned. I am running out of ideas talking to them. In the end, I am muting myself.
SW-User
No, but I do downvote just to keep @SW-User in his place
SW-User
@SW-User I don't even waste my downvotes on you
SW-User
@SW-User you love my cheeky little downvotes, they make you feel warm inside
SW-User
@SW-User they're a strange way to express your love, but then again you are a strange little person
bookerdana · M
I don't usually talk about block /mute so i'll just say I have civilized friends😤
summersong · F
Absolutely, sometimes it gets to be too much.
I've done it before and in real life, too. In real life you don't necessarily have a name for the act though, other than saying to yourself, I love this person and we may have differences of opinion, but respect tells me I have to remember that until the comes where I resume seeing what I loved about them?
Jessmari · 41-45
Yes, Occasionally. In cases where they are prone to political debates. Mostly as as effort to avoid viewing them in that light. I have an unfavorable view of politics no matter it's source.
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
No, I never mute my friends....though I sometimes avoid saying anything about some of their posts.

Hey, wait a minute.....you mute me???!!! 😲
@DragonFruit Lol, no. You don’t generally make wild posts. 😄
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard That would depend on what you consider wild....some might have a different opinion about me and wild posts, especially when i’ve been drinking.
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
I do that. I refrain from certain topics and I tend to do that. I don't hate them but at the same time they're free to post as they please even if we cannot agree with them.

I just mute those subjects.
SW-User
I have - I like them generally and the say something that so totally disagrees with who I am and I have no choice. Until at least I decide to forget...
I muted an online friend once and found out latter they died of OD (a cousin of a friend irl) .. i felt terrible..
@SStarfish I’m so sorry. 🙁
Yeah 🤐 it was awhile back but.. 🤐 idk @bijouxbroussard
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
I understand.
I think in some cases it's necessary but I do wonder, those that do that do you remember to ummute them?
SW-User
I've muted them because their romantic drivel was too boring even if I still liked them as people
@SW-User I totally understand this.
BitterSweetPotato · 31-35, F
I don’t bother.. but I am pretty sure you muted me at one point 🤨
@BitterSweetPotato In fact, I haven’t. Your posts make me smile and often cheer me up—Mlle Patate. 🤗
BitterSweetPotato · 31-35, F
@bijouxbroussard I am glad 🤗😘 that made my day!
Lilymoon · F
I've done that if I feel I never get responses from them. I figure they're pissed at me for some reason. 🤷‍♀️
leeloh · F
No, not really. But if anyone keeps posting something that disturbs me, I'll mute them, family or stranger
Peaches · F
It never worked for me, 🤷 so no. I just keep walking until I see something that I would like to engage in. ⭐
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
I've been hiding posts on various topics lately, like COVID and politics.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
My old gfs sister has started texting me about religion. Click.
SW-User
@Tastyfrzz old gfs sister....block lol - trust me
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
SW-User
@CountScrofula If I find out that you muted me I'm going to block you.
MethDozer · M
@SW-User You're unbanned
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@SW-User NEVER. Also, hi!
I just ignore it. I can't trust myself to remember to unmute them
Yes totally especially on whatsapp statuses. And on FB.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
I have not done that, but at times I scroll quickly!
Nah, I follow what they're up to and just move on
ImRileyTheDog · 22-25, F
Nah. I don’t do the mute block or anything like that
SW-User
Nah I've never used the mute here.
SW-User
Nah. I'll just scroll by the post
Degbeme · 70-79, M
No I`m good at ignoring. ;)
Lilymoon · F
Yes I have. There I said it. 🤭
comfi1 · 61-69, M
Not so far.
No. When it has got to that I've deleted or blocked them.
SW-User
On my old profile I remember muting some because they were annoying me for whatever reason, but unfortunately I forgot to unmute them for such a long time
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
I mute the ones that are constantly commenting on nudes so I don’t have to see it 😂
MethDozer · M
Not often but have done
