Sounds like there's some sort of rift in her family and she's keeping it private and using work as an excuse. You've expressed your concern; if she wants to share more later she will. In the mean time, continue to be supportive and a good friend to her. Keep coming up with reasons to contact her; talk about a movie or music or whatever.
