LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@SW-User Looks great!
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
Butter, sugar, cream, and BACON. Cheese grits are good too, though.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@SwampFlower I've had bacon on the side but never in them! Hmmm..might have to try that!
Mardrae · F
Grits with cheese, all the way! Add butter and a dab of hot sauce! I can’t see adding the sugar myself. Never had it with shrimp, but that looks amazing!
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
@Mardrae They're good with shrimp. Definitely something to check into if you eve find yourself on the gulf coast
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Mardrae Shrimp and grits - sooo good. But sweet is also yummy to me.
Just like the picture, please. Sweet is ok now and then, but in general I'm a savory grits kinda country boy.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Stillwaiting Country boy knows what's good! Love me some shrimp and cheese grits. But tonight it was a simple sweet version.
BeachGirl47 · 26-30, F
Im not fond of grits
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@BeachGirl47 Not everyone is.
BeachGirl47 · 26-30, F
@LadyBronte but ive had worse.
Love grits both ways. Have you had them made italian style? Chicken broth instead of water or milk and parmesan instead of cheddar. They call it polenta if you look for a recipe
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Bobby1123422 I normally use polenta instead of the traditional white grits. I have had them fixed similarly (restaurant). They were good! I'll have to see if I can make them at home sometime!
@LadyBronte yeah im not a fan of hominy

I learned to eat them in the south when I was younger but sugar and cream with the butter. Still love them that way.@OldMan70
TrashCat · M
I like my grits with butter, cream, and maple syrup
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@OldMan70 I use brown sugar or coconut sugar on my oatmeal. I only use real maple syrup on pancakes, French toast, and in glaze for ham, chicken, etc.

@OldMan70 I try. Don't always get it right though.
bowman81 · M
Meh.
Not a fan of grits.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
They aren't for everyone. Lol. @bowman81
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
I had grits once in my life. Maybe twice. (Both times in the southern US).

I can’t say I like them or dislike them…the ones I had were for breakfast and pretty plain.
(Better than biscuits and gravy thats fer sure!)

But the ones in your pic look delish!
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@LunarOrbit Cheesy shrimp and grits are da bomb! I use the polenta rather than the typical white grits. For breakfast, I like them with butter, cream and sugar. For dinner - always cheesy and hearty with shrimp or chicken - and a lot of spices! Yum,
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
@LadyBronte The cheesy shrimp does sound delish. (I’ll give you that one :) )

I’m not sure about the sweet one for breakfast. You know my tastebuds! 😉

Little story…I ate alot of polenta growing up. Always with stews and sauces for dinner. Maybe cheese too. A staple in Italian culture.
One of my first girlfriends came for dinner one night. Bad enough she wasn’t Italian…but when she asked for syrup for the polenta, I thought my mom was going to have a heart attack. Even I raised my eyebrows at the request. Fortunately we didn’t have syrup at my moms house…and that gf didn’t last long after that nite anyways.
🤣
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@LunarOrbit Laughs - yes. I doubt you would care for the sweet ones. Sounds like that's a good thing - you might be disowned! Haha! That's hilarious about your old gf.. I wonder did she know she was kicked to the curb over polenta? 😜. Although, if I were at your house, I would ask for maple syrup too - just to be ornery! And I know you'd have it! 😂

I didn't grow up eating polenta or grits. I discovered them in my 20s when I moved to the southern states. Loved them ever since.
Real butter peppered and a little salt piping hot how i like them
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
Always have to have butter on the grits!!@Bodymindsoul
MissingLink · 51-55, M
I like em with a little butter and a little cheese
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
That sounds good. Can't go wrong with cheese and butter! @MissingLink
Lumberjack70 · 51-55, M
Instead of grits, I read “girls” and thought “yeah, this fits in with SW!” Lol

The grits look delish!
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Lumberjack70 Haha! No girls in the question, just grits! 😂

Oh I love them! But real ones, not the 'minute grits' or anything. @Stereoguy

@Stereoguy I actually like them all kinds of ways. Not sure what my favorite would be!
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
I only cook genuine grits that are from a smaller farm, thicker not dried out and so full of flavor they don’t need much or anything added. I usually add some fresh garlic and fresh ginger.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@BackyardShaman I actually use genuine polenta rather than the traditional white grits. They are amazing!
OverTheHill · 56-60, M
I'm not a grits eater, but my daughter loves them.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
They are yummy!@OverTheHill
Piper · 61-69, F
I grew up liking grits, and still do. Usually just with butter, salt and pepper...but also other "savory" ways. My mother used to make grits patties, and we all loved them.

I never liked grits (I'm from the south too), but I did like Cream of Wheat. Weird.
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
@OldMan70 never had that

LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@DearAmbellina2113 I did like cream of wheat when I was a kid. I remember there was a jelly filled muffin recipe on the box - those were sooo good! Lol!
Carla · 61-69, F
Ive tried them so many times, every which way.
I cant get past the texture.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Carla I can see that some people wouldn't care for the texture. Bummer though - they are so good. Lol.
Carla · 61-69, F
@LadyBronte that's what ive been told.
And why ive tried so many times
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
At least you gave it a shot!
@Carla
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
We used to make loaves of grits — we called it "corn-meal mush" — slice it up and fry it, then top it with butter and syrup. Heaven!
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@DunningKruger I have had it that way as well. It is good!
exexec · 61-69, C
Don't put sugar in my grits! I want grits with lots of butter, salt and pepper.
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
@LadyBronte Nah. The polenta wasnt the reason for that relationship not lasting. But Im sure my folks didn’t shed a tear. 😅

I cant imagine maple syrup on polenta.

Have you ever had it blackened on the bbq?

I have never seen grits up here. So unlikely I will try them locally.

But I will think of the savoury grits with shrimp now. Thank you
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@LunarOrbit Haha. Well that's actually good.

Blackened on the BBQ? No, but that sounds really good! I may have to try that sometime.

You could aways make shrimp and grits. Just substitute polenta! Yum!!!
QCDog2659 · 61-69, M
Now I NEED some shrimp and grits!!
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
Yes! @QCDog2659
Penny · 46-50, F
i like grits plain cooked with water and a little salt. i dont think adding butter does anything for them so why add all that extra fat? but then i like them savory. never tried them sweet with cream. i dont think id like them that way. too rich. but then i dont like shrimp either because i think they taste too rich.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
Butter. 🧈
Saucylover · 26-30, F
I prefer mine with salt, pepper, and butter. I think sugary grits are blasphemy lmao. Just eat oatmeal. But of course, eat your food however you like.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Saucylover Oats and grits aren't the same at all! So I'll keep putting sugar, butter and cream on mine for breakfast. And smiling the entire time. Lol! 😜
Saucylover · 26-30, F
@LadyBronte I know they are different lol. But I just think oats are better sweet and grits are better savory. But you do you lol. I’m not hating😅😂.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Just salt and butter for me please .
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@AthrillatheHunt Nothing wrong with that.
SW-User
I’ve never heard of a grit (relating to food). But what you posted looks tasty.
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
@SW-User Grits is a southern USA staple, made from corn. If you’re familiar with polenta it is very similar.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@SW-User Yes, made from corn. And they're very good!
Patientlywaiting · 46-50, FVIP
What are grits please? Do you have a favourite recipe?
@Patientlywaiting grits are white homeny corn ground coursely they ate a great side for eggs bacon breakfast
Patientlywaiting · 46-50, FVIP
@Bodymindsoul Ok thanks. Is is a kind of flour but made from corn not wheat? I googled. I think I could try it with polenta or white corn maybe.
@Patientlywaiting its course grainy and so good with butter and peppered

DrWatson · 70-79, M
I did not grow up with them, but I have spent enough time in the southern US to have had them several times. I think of them only as a savory side dish: lots of butter and black pepper.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@DrWatson They do make a great savory dish.
I like buttery or cheesy grits. I love shrimp n grits. I'm not a fan of sweet grits though.
Southern girl here too
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@JustJustine I like them all those ways - including sweet. :)
RosaMarie · 41-45, F
So, I'm tired and scrolling and totally read that as girls not grits... Was so confused.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@RosaMarie Youre the second person who read it as "girls" instead of grits! 😂
RosaMarie · 41-45, F
@LadyBronte I'm not against fun with food, but butter, sugar, and cream wouldn't be my first choices for girls. Grits, on the other hand. Yum.

I am an oatmeal person
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Justmeraeagain I like oatmeal too. I realize grits aren't for everyone. 😊
Zonuss · 41-45, M
By the way grits with butter, salmon, and salt, goes good together. 🙂
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Zonuss I'll bet!
maturemuff61 · 61-69, F
I grew up on grits but with me it was the traditional plenty of butter with salt and pepper
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@maturemuff61 To me, sugar and cream are the traditional. Lol.
