Why would I divide it? Taxes are taken out before you get your check. If you took the cash option plan keeping out a couple million cash would be smart to have cash on hand and pay off your bills, then put the rest in an interest-bearing checking account. The bulk I would invest in areas where I got paid quarterly dividends. If I was concerned with about sharing with family, after a few years the dividend pool would be substantial enough that you could help family out if they got sick and behind on their bills, or had some set back .

I’d like to buy a home on an acreage near Amish settlements and live off grid, put up solar panels, have a good root cellar, storm shelter, clothesline, garden, potato patch, greenhouse, build a treehouse to hang out in…travel a bit and look for things that need fixin’. There’s a tiny home community built in OKC area for foster children who become adult age so that they can get on their feet and go to school and not have to be pressured about paying rent & high utility’s & other expenses. That would be a very worthy thing to donate to.

@ProfessorPlum77 Just for fun I started looking on Zillow and saw a couple of homes listed that apparently Amish were selling on acreages that would be ideal. They weren’t connected to electricity and had some of the things I wanted. Wood-burning free-standing fireplaces in the living area and wood-burning stoves in the kitchens, lots of kitchen cabinets, nice big clothesline, a small barn, etc. Probably hand pump water wells too but I didn’t see them in the photos. I’d love to be able to do business with the Amish, their stuff generally is pretty expensive but everything they make…furniture, carpentry stuff, quilts etc is quality stuff. They have Amish stores to buy all sorts of groceries in those areas too.

@cherokeepatti [c=666666]For sure the house would be quality built. But, I need electricity, running water, indoor plumbing, etc. [/c]
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@ProfessorPlum77 I have seen hand pumps on kitchen sinks, you can have a flush toilet with a septic system and put water in the tank. Some work but can be done. Also electricity with solar and maybe roof wind turbines if you are conservative with use

Divide the money?
All mine, though I might seek out my brother to see if he has any debts I could get rid of.
Talk to an accountant as to the best way to store the money.
Buy a house and new car, then sit back and partake in my heart's desires.
