I like Nike AirMax running shoes. I feel that they have good arch support. To make them even better for my plantar fasciitis, I use Redi-thotics inserts inside them, on the advice of my podiatrist. I found my shoes with an online search--I like colorful shoes, not necessarily what is in the stores. The shoes I liked best were a model from a previous year and I got them at a bargain price from a retailer who seemed to specialize in that kind of thing. But in the past, I've had Nike custom-make shoes for me! This is cheaper than some of their fancier shoes.
Of course there are good choices in other brands as well, but I know how Nikes fit me so can order them from the Internet with confidence.

@DreamyCrush I've heard very good things about the Ecco brand but haven't tried any yet.
VIONICS
A little pricey but we swear by them for arch support and they really help with Plantar fasciitis.
Another brand with similar qualities is BROOKS.

@Threepio Thank you. I will check them out.
@DreamyCrush Try to catch them on sale at a local dealer (if you have any...). My spouse gets them either from the VIONIC website or Dilliards also stocks some/most of their line.
As far as BROOKS, we have a local dealer (The Walk Shop), that puts them on sale every now and then. I wear a men's size 15 and have been able to find them on sale in the $120-150 range (my "basketball" friends always call me when they see a sale there) I don't recall ever buying a pair at MSRP, so I have no idea how much that is.
