i have horribly problematic feet. very narrow heel, very high arches - so high you can see clean through the underneath when i'm standing flat, there's no damn meat on my bony-ass feet either, plus long toes - especially the second one. very, very rarely you'll ever see me outside of my Birk Zurichs...
when it's cold - which is rare, i wear Birk clogs with socks.
i also have a pair of Oofos recovery slides, for after exercising, or if i don't wanna get my leather Birks wet, like when washing the car, etc...
but i used to have hundreds of pairs of shoes; some i ordered internationally. i was a shoe fiend. eventually my problem feet dictated style was not my friend anymore. 🥺 i donated thousands of dollars worth of shoes all in one go. my gift to the universe
My Mother used to get special widths, but, as you say, it is often a set of things; if you have a too-narrow heel, it can make you walk out of normal shoes! When narrow widths disappeared from stores, a lot of people started trying to wear improper shoes.
With your long toes, HIGH arch, bony feet...AND a narrow heel...well, you sound like a class project for budding shoe designers. It's a wonder you found footwear which you notice *works*.

it took me three years, and part of that was getting the wrong style or bed-type in the Birks. it was expensive and painful!
i'm about to have a pair rebuilt at a Birkenstock shoe and repair shop. i'm also about to find out what it might take to have a custom pair made. i don't want to do something like that through the mail. i'll talk to the Birk cobbler about it, i think.
@SW-User Yeah, you can't have "made custom for my body" be NOT in-person, until they get your particular pattern down (which has to mean getting an entire constellation of measurements for feet, which have to bend & move a *lot*.
@ChiefJustWalks Ah, platforms are easier to walk in than normal heels, because your foot is quite straight and supported. Also, wore heels most my working life, so kinda easy.

I’m not really a big shoe person 😬, so I usually wear something simple like Converses, Vans or some Nikes 🤷🏽♀️😌( they’re comfortable) But I wanted to buy some heels but I can’t walk in them… so what’s the point 😂😅

These are just stock photos from the internet, but I remember owning several types back in the day. The shoe craze hadn't hit yet....wish I'd kept more of mine. There are good shoe clean kits and shoe white to keep a collection in mint condition, though.
Been looking for the grey flights in a nubuck/suede for years. In black were slick too. Very nice!

@SethGreene531 honestly I'm afraid of shoe cleaning kits because I had one in middle school that completely ruined my white vans 😭 actually those white shoes in my top picture, those are the first white shoes I've ever bought since 6th grade because I've been so scared to ruin them 😂 I don't use cleaning kits, I just don't get my shoes dirty or creased. I even have a pair I wear to get dirty & those are still clean too 🤣 & sadly they don't make those Flights anymore. You'd have to find them as resale on eBay if anything.
Also I watched that Alicia Keys episode about two years ago 🙏 I love those sneaker shopping episodes. When she bought those Ben & Jerry's that was around when they were still new & super popular 👌
@ChiefJustWalks I hear that. Certain sprays for leather especially, can do bad things. I've had that experience before. That's awful!
Same, I used to buy a duplicate pair for everyday use and the other stayed boxed and uncreased.

I remember helping a girl buy a pair of Air max 95's in Orlando, which had a lot of bright color. We were figuring out the best color -- which was the neon yellow air bubble.

But yes, when I was little, I couldn't find shoes my size, new balance was the only ones that consistently carried them, so they supported me, so I support them.
Now more big brands have my size foot, but back in the day, it was only new balance.
And I had a former job that demand all black shoes... and my current job, well, in theory I'm suppose to have nicer shoes, but my manager was cool with it, as long as they don't stand out too much and black on black is the most hidden so...
