As someone who is rather fashion inept, can someone suggest a good casual men's hat?
I've been hat tempted for a while, but it seems to be a rough space.
I don't like the look of beanies or stocking caps. Baseball caps also don't work for me.
I kind of like hats with a brim all the way around, but fedoras tend to have a bad reputation, right? And being in Florida I feel like straw hat would be too... floridian somehow 😅
I do like to see a man in a fedora, and if you want it for casual wear just wear it casually (and you get to snap the brim).
For extra points, touch the brim when you greet me! I have a European friend who does that and I love it (mind you he also kisses my hand, at which point I'm purring)
Perhaps a straw fedora?
So much of the attractiveness of clothes depends on how they are worn 😀
Whatever you chose, wear it with what I can best describe as 'negligent self-confidence'
@newjaninev2 currently considering something called an outback hat. This one is sort of a cross between American west "cowboy" and Australian outback styles. I like the brown leather look to it too.
Go with functional. It needs a brim on the front to shade eyes from the sun. The back should be adjustable, but not have a big gap where bugs will bite you. Do not buy anything with a metal rivet at the top as it will burn your head in the sun. A boating sail hat is nice, with a chin strap, and the top is very light so it's good in hot weather. Probably not the coolest look though. Some pageboy hats look alright, but maybe those are for older guys. Forget cowboy hats, those are ridiculous in the car even though they are fun to wear, you look like a dork. Turban perhaps?
@ViciDraco I knew that you were a man who prefers longer hair and I was considering that you might like to tie or tuck it up on hot days, I know that I do because it helps me get more breeze around my face and neck.
But it's great that you are helping to clarify the types of hat that you prefer.
Any will do. Just put a lid on it 😁 lol Just kidding. Yeah I have to figure out my own style. Have to try them on fedora, bowler hat, Dr. Seuss' Cat in the Hat's hat, etc
@Casheyane generally for fashion, which makes it tougher because I don't generally have outfits that pair with hats. And different outfits should have different hats but that gets expensive.
At the moment, I'm thinking of getting something leather to theme with my bag and to wear it with my more casual button up short sleeves.
I don't think fedoras necessarily create negative connotations for people, but I also don't consider them a casual hat. Unfortunately, that doesn't really leave any. Unless somebody else knows of one I'm not thinking of.
@ViciDraco The incel community adopted one particular style of fedora, but there are other styles still. I don't know. And I don't pair mine with a suit, exactly.
@MisterBander nope I will remember we had this chat and purposefully refuse to understand...just because we talked on SW....that will show you whos never been boss!
