The more you panic the more you'll smoke. If you smoke 20 a day then think to yourself ok where do I smoke most of these. What I found was say I was going to work. I'd get to the bus stop, waiting for a bus I'd smoke a cigarette when I got off the bus I'd smoke another I'd repeat this cycle on the next bus and on the way back home so I could easy tot up like 5-6 cigarettes everyday just travelling back a forth to work. If I walked to the shop I might smoke a cig going do the shopping light another cig up walking back.

These are all convenient little stop gaps where you subconsciously light up another cigarette without thinking about it so what you have to do is break that routine. I mean what I did is started leaving my cigarettes at home or at work so I didn't have them on me while travelling about. I'd reach for the packet subconsciously but they wouldn't be there, and then I'd remember why.

Now for a while I did sometimes forget and I'd have them on me but soon as I realised I'd then make the conscious effort just to continue the rest of that journey not lighting up another cigarette.

After a couple of months it didn't matter if I had cigarettes on me or not I'd broke that subconscious habit of smoking while I was travelling about and in doing this I cut my smoking habit in half, without really over stressing myself about it because I only had the one very simple rule to stick to as best I could and if I f%ked up, no biggie, I'd just continue with the new rule as soon realised and it didn't take long at all to actually break that part of the habit.

My mom smoked and had her wine through 4 pregnancies, dad smoked in the house as well and they both smoked in the car. Me and my siblings turned out just fine. It wasn’t until my ex wife got pregnant with our oldest (1993) the AMA said officially pregnant women shouldn’t smoke and 8 months into her pregnancy they said second hand smoke was harmful. It’s best if you can stop, but if not moderation is the key to anything.

Might want to consider something like a Juul. It should cut down the cigarettes and doesn't contain the chemicals you probably don't want right now.

I'm a former smoker so I know how hard it can be to stop. Not a doctor but perhaps you can use the nicotine lozenges. You'll get smaller amounts of nicotine, hopefully enough to dampen the cravings, with no chemicals that are found in cigarette smoke. Nicotine itself is bad in that it constricts your arteries (probably baby's too), but the amount in your system will be less. Like someone else said, definitely check with your doctor. Aim for zero. Smoking is a very hard addiction to break but it can be done. start by simply delay your first smoke of the day. If you can work up to delaying it until the next day then the day after that then the day after that.... Ex smoker. I know the pain.
