Thinking certain aspects of education should be left up to the parents is a very privileged opinion.

You’re completely ignoring the orphans, children growing up in the system, abused kids, neglected kids, kids who have parents with disabilities, kids with uneducated parents.

So do those kids just not matter?

Actually kids with uneducated parents are the majority...

But IF there are parents, then shouldn’t that mainly be the case?
I mean.. if I’d leave the education of my child entirely up to society / school, he’d learn to be like everyone else and to only walk in line. Because that is what school is teaching my son. At home, he learns his creativity, I play games with him and make time to teach him proper language. He’s in a class with 28 other children and only 2 teachers. They really don’t have time to teach them properly.
@kimmy159 no one is saying you can’t teach him, my point is we shouldn’t take certain programs out of school because they are needed by a group of disadvantaged children.

@666Maggotz Ah I understand now and also share that opinion. I even would say school teaches way too little of life-necessary-knowledge and skills. General education is also important, but for the latter they do rely too much on the private environment of children to teach them. As you stated, not everyone is that lucky to have the ideal setting for that.
