Honestly this is likely a lifelong balancing exercise... like it or not, people value bloodbonds over mostly anything, so it is bound to be a recurring theme. I didn't speak to my father for seven years, then reconnected (as much as it's possible with that man), and now again have ignored him for years. Siblings and mom, similar stories. Once it's been fucked up, it's hard to forget.
