Is it ok to pour water down the disposal side of the kitchen sink?

I ask because I've never had one until now...

Water is just sitting there in the disposal side.

*****I have NEVER put anything besides water on the disposal side...I use the trash can for food scraps *****

Yes, it all goes to the same drain ultimately. It should be the primary sink. It collects debris/waste, and needs water to 'flush it out.
