Do you think father's should choose their daughters husband?

SW-User Best Comment
No, not unless he intends to live with the husband and put up with him. Free people should make as many of their own choices as they can. Why should a father be better placed to judge a man? He's only human too, he can get it very wrong.

@SW-User But he is more objective and obviously wants the best for his daughter, who might be blinded by talk dark and handsome
SW-User
@SW-User He's not objective though, he's choosing for his daughter and that makes him very biased. He may be blinded by practicality or financial stability and may miss behavioural issues that the guy only shows behind closed doors when he's in a relationship.

The best person to choose a partner is the person who has to live with that partner.

No but in my culture he has to "approve" at least, lol
SW-User
@SW-User Has anyone been approved yet?

@SW-User My dad is gone. How I wish he was still around.

When one of my sons in law, a bit more traditional guy asked me "her hand" I told him:

No way! If you don´t take the complete combo, there is no deal.😄

🤦‍♀️

@Lilymoon Should've let dad choose, then you wouldn't facepalm

@SW-User No thanks I don't live in the 12th century

@Lilymoon Aaah... The good ol' days....

If it were left to fathers, every man would fall short for his daughter.
It'd be wonderful for a father to put his seal of approval but it's taking it too far if he chooses, lol.

@SW-User One of the guys I went through training with (RAF) posted on Facebook his daughter was getting married, one of the guys off his squadron (sqns are renown for their 'antics') asked if they should take him out to make sure he was worthy. He replied that the man had already passed all the tests needed by being selected by his daughter - I was impressed by the reply.
SW-User
@SW-User Maybe, but in the case of a father, he'd be very protective and might be tunnel visioned/ prejudiced.
SW-User
@GeniUs Indeed, it is impressive when parents can put their faith in their children.

@AbbySvenz Why not?

In some cultures it's normal for a father to choose a husband/wife for their child. However, I think the choice should be made by the person themself.

My daugters choosed them right.
A marriage without being and keeping both mutually proudly choosed and in love is a fraud.

Sure.
Let's really turn back the clocks for women.

I think AI should choose which people get together with who. There's so much heartache and trauma resulting from people picking their partners through primitive animal instincts
Never. The daughters have their own personalities and life is about making your own choices.

Yes, but like, a father should have a say because he knows best.
