Okay car people, I need some help here.

My current vehicle has sort of a rattling sound at start up. It's only after I start the car up, though. Once I put it in gear though, everything is fine. The thing is that I can't exactly tell where the sound is coming from. If it's coming from the bottom end...that could be a fatal problem.

It could be a motor mount, or another broken mount. I have had experience with Volvos that actually do that, but it's more of a grinding noise when making right turns with a cold engine that has been a motor mount on the passenger's side.

What type of vehicle is having the problem? Are the belts in good condition?

@toddr13 It's a 2009 Chevy Malibu. The serpentine belt tends to squeak just a little bit in wet or humid weather.

@SubstantialKick I know someone who had a similar vintage Buick that made a sound like that and it turned out to be debris in the Camshaft Actuator Solenoid screen, I think. I am not sure if he replaced them or cleaned them, but if you do that, you need to change the oil at the same time too, since that's the source of debris in that area. This was after isolating the serpentine belt and mounts not being culprits.
Maybe it might be your exhaust manifold heat shield.

What kind of vehicle is it?
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
@gregloa A 2009 Chevy Malibu 4 cylinder.

There’s your problem. There’s only one thing wrong with it. Take it down to the Ford House and get one of those blue ovals put on it. You’ll never have any more trouble with it. @SubstantialKick

maybe a problem with the starter

Idk I'd be guessing, sorry

Could be the starter or the timing belt/chain
