Changing perspective

Since I have become an adult, I look at little things people do for me with more suspicion. A man held the car door for me the other day when I had shopping bags. Maybe he was just being nice, but I figured he was wanting to see how far my dress would creep up. I’ve known him for years… he’s always been nice, and why should I mind anyway. I’ve felt guilty ever since.
I would likely open the door for a girl I knew. Being courteous is important to me.

Sounds like a gentleman to me
Did you thank him
MrGoodbar · 51-55, M
many of us men have been trained to do "chivalrous" things for women, mainly opening doors. So its very much a habit, I do it all the time for no other reason then that's what I was told was the right thing to do
Nelisme · 22-25, F
@MrGoodbar It’s certainly not a bad habit. Innocent and even nice gestures can me misinterpreted sometimes. I think it’s regrettable that this happens, but it does… and I know I’m guilty.
Yea he was sneaking a peek
@Nelisme dont forget a "toothbrush in use" sign for the bedroom door 😁
Nelisme · 22-25, F
@ExperienceDLT please knock before entering when toothbrush is in use :)
@Nelisme but what if we just wanna watch ya brush your teeth 😕
Lostpoet · M
I open the door it's built in behavior for some guys
Nelisme · 22-25, F
@Lostpoet Yeah, I’m sure that is true.

There are many, or at least some of us that had parents, grandparents or others who taught us to be gentlemen and opening a door for a woman is just what we do. For me it was my grandmother and if I pass up the opportunity to do the "gentlemanly thing" I hear her calling out my name with "that" voice.

Just 20 minutes ago I held a door open for a woman and got a dirty look. When will I learn
Nelisme · 22-25, F
@SW-User that’s a shame. Maybe she felt guilty after
SW-User
Nah, just another man hater
SW-User
Nah. Trust no one. 😅 Cant say I've ever held a door open for someone to see how far their dress raises tho.
PTCdresser57 · 61-69, M
I think he was being nice
Nelisme · 22-25, F
@PTCdresser57 There have been a few incidents that were not favorable,
But I don’t want to change.
PTCdresser57 · 61-69, M
Then that is your choice Nelisme. I would rather be an optimist than a pessimist
Nelisme · 22-25, F
