Y'know, back when I was in 8th grade I got hit by a car 😅
Well, a van actually. Frickin' Dodge Caravan lol.
I usually walked home from school late because I always had detentions 🤷 (I broke a record at my school 😂)
Anyway I was crossing the street in a crosswalk & I had the right of way because the sign said 🚶
I wasn't fully paying attention because I was reading a text on my phone then the van hit me from my left side. I stuck to the hood for a sec til the driver stopped. After she stopped I hit the floor & went rolling.
I remember seeing the light turn green then thinking "oh shit I'm in the middle of the road I need to move" so I got up & it was difficult to walk, I was limping but I got myself out the road as fast as possible.
When the lady got out the car she was getting off the phone with someone. Then she asked if I was okay & I still didn't fully realize what happened so I was like "Yeah 🤷 are YOU okay? 👀" like I didn't know why she was asking me that 😂 she looked at me all confused then told me to sit down because I was still just standing there.
Another car pulled over & some guys came running to help. They asked if I had a phone or knew my parents number & that's when I realized my phone was still in my hand 😮 idk how 😅 but I called my stepmom then handed them the phone because I was still out of it & didn't know what to say.
The police & firemen got there so they started asking me questions & checking me out to make sure I was okay. They said I dented in the front of the van so I obviously got hit pretty hard so they were surprised I was standing. I refused the ambulance & I honestly thought I was still gonna walk home but then my stepmom showed up, followed by my dad shortly after.
Idk why I was surprised they were there. Obviously they would be but idk, I just didn't know.
After a few hours passed, I couldn't walk so I ended up going to the hospital. Nothing was broken still, turns out I just had a bruised bone in my leg 🤷 they put me in a splint, gave me crutches, then I was good. I only used the crutches for a day though because they bothered me. I forced myself to walk on it so I had a slight limp for about a year.
Sometimes I like to think of it as an encouraging thing though. Like I literally got hit by a car once & got back up.. kept walking. In life, I do always get back up & keep walking. Even if I'm limping for a while, I keep going.
