just keep memories in my 🧠 ❤️

I used to be that way too. 😅 I wanted to see them them, touch them, hold them, etc.
But now, I don’t feel the need to keep a physical tangible item to be reminded of a memory.

A little of both.
When it comes to "things", I every so often, start tossing things that mostly feel like dust collectors or clutter. I've even thrown away pictures. A few things I'll never let go of.

Pictures and greetings cards.
I used to keep those. Until, I decided on one big purge.
I read the cards and looked at the pictures one more time to reminisce all the memories associated with them. And with a happy tear or two, I put them in the shredder.

Letting go of what doesn't bring positive energy sounds good in theory, but sometimes we need to to be there for those who need us.....even though they have become ill and they give off negative energy.
Call me sentimental.
Call me sentimental.
FrozenWasteland · 61-69, M
My challenge stems from the fact that so many things (and people) in my life bring a mix of positive and negative energy, of joy and sadness -- and the balance sometimes shifts rapidly.
Seems like I'm just not ready to let many of these go.
So... sentamentalist? I'm not sure. Maybe I'm living in hope that the balance might shift towards the positive energy/joy side. Optimist?
Come to think of it, perhaps "idiot" is a better description.

Oooh....ive always held on to stuff for sentimental reasons, but as i get older i prefer lrss clutter about the place, so have in the past couple of years began to let stuff go.
Same could be said for people. Ive kept hold of far too many people far too long too, im gradually learning to let go of those too....

Totally a sentimentalist. I have kept things from our farm. Ancient Ox yokes, storage bin for harvested potatoes....an old tin metal bowled illuminator with a wick on a swivel arm for night illumination......an old six board horse drawn sleigh.....heck yes. I'll surrended none of it from the farm. I call that frugal. I have many more things.....vegetables grinders for making relish....old pots and sheet pans, again from the farm.....clam sieves for steaming clams (we do live near the ocean)....soaking tubs for purging clams....so many different things. You betcha I keep them. I love them all, they still have a purpose and they carry such an echo to the past and what once was by those before me who used them.

I’m no minimalist but I do get rid of things once they are no longer useful or joyful. Like at least once a year I have a big clear out and donate a bunch of stuff, but too much bare space makes me uncomfortable
SW-User
Honestly, I think I'm just lazy and forget to clear out what I don't want.🙈
At heart I am a minimalist..with a lazy front to do anything about it.

Very sentimental.

@Fungirlmmm
I understand what you mean.
Connections with people are special. Most of them don’t change over time. They don’t fade away.
But with some people, a part of us holds on to them, even if sometimes we shouldn’t.

@CookieCrumbs Maybe. I tend to think if we are holding on there is some value in it for us.

I'm a sentimentalist who has also collected thing in the past. I had room then, however, now I'm in a small house and need to be more minimalist. The challenge is over sell, toss, or give away.
One thing I do to help, is if it's solely sentimental with no value other than memories, I take a photo before tossing, and make some notes on it. Someday, someone will go through my photos and wonder WTF why a picture of THAT.

Not a hoarder, but I used to hold on to things (just) a little bit longer than I should.
But then when I get those moments of feeling that the things I keep are taking too much space than they should, I do one major purge without having seconds thoughts what needs to go.
I do that more often now. I ask myself: do I need this in my life? If the answer is NO, then it has to go no matter how I feel about it.

You calling out hoarders but nicely? 😆

I'm a sentimentalist with trauma so a lot the crap I hoard still brings joy even though it shouldn't.

@CookieCrumbs I've working with a therapist for about a year. I've gotten a lot better at letting go but I still struggle over nonsensical things.
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
I'm not particularly sentimental. I have my memories, and I don't like clutter. However, there are some things I won't discard.

A sentimentalist that leans towards being a minimalist for peace of mind.

🤩 You’re reading my mind. You put it the way that captures my reasons for shifting to minimalism, both in tangible and intangible things in life.

Total minimalist. People are shocked as there are no ornaments, plants or so few paintings on the wall. I hate needless clutter.
SW-User
Depends, if I know I no longer use something probably give it away, but if it has an emotional connection I keep it.
Lumberjack70 · 56-60, M
A minimalist, for sure, both in possessions and relationships. I find that this helps me stay focused and calm.
TexChik · F
I think some of both . I keep what matters , even long after they pass and I am quick to discard anything that is negative or upsetting.
RoxClymer · 41-45, M
realist, a minimalist that has a bunch of medical/ adaptive equipment, 7 lb of shit in a 5 lb bag but it's all needed.....
I’m a mini-sentimentalist trending towards sentiminimentalist

@CookieCrumbs I think it’s very self -explanatory, however I will say that what I once was, I am drifting towards being the opposite, and find this path quite liberating .

One has to ask why they’re being sentimental to hold on to those that don’t bring value to their lives anymore?
