Would you consider this gas lighting?

I was on the phone with my friend yesterday night he told me that he had lasagna for dinner,
So today after speaking to him today , I told him that he had me craving lasagna since yesterday,
Then he said what are you talking about I never had lasagna lol, So I kept insisting he told me that and he kept saying nope i never said that lol
He is so weird! But why I thought it was gaslighting is because I really had to dig in my head and remember if he really said it or not anyway it's not even a big deal, but gaslighting starts small

It could be unintentional gaslighting; perhaps he has a terrible memory. But you're right--trying to get someone to question their reality (especially a reality that they helped contribute to) is gaslighting.

I don't think that's gaslighting.
It sounds like he forgot his initial lie or he was messing with you.
Be aware of this possibly occurring again with him. If it does, you might re consider your friendship with him. What might start as a misunderstanding and a mistake is one thing, but it can readily take a different, less positive direction. Keep that in mind especially if gaslighting is his intent, though it may not be.
he could have dementia

I wouldn't suspect he's doing it on purpose based on a single occurrence, but I'd remember it. If it happens again, I'd get suspicious. If it gets to be a pattern, run.
It starts small and then gets out of proportion
He either lied or you misunderstood him

Maybe he was joking around with you
