I Was In the Marching Band In High School

When I was hardly over being a toddler, I knew I wanted to being marching band and play the flute.

In fifth grade at the end of the school year we selected a couple of electives,, I registered for band for one and don't remember other.

When we were choosing our instrument to learn to play, I was told my lips weren't right for playing the flute, so since I insisted on being in the woodwind section at least. I got stuck with the family clarinet. I actually liked it, but silently vowed to myself that come **** or high water, I was going to play the flute, and that would be that!

In 8th grade, our band director, Mr. M. entered us into our towns' Fair Parade. School started in August, the parade was about 2 months later. We marched all over town, getting used to marching.

My freshman year the school had hired another director, Mr. C. He was much stricter than Mr. M, and demanded discipline in the band. He wasn't an easy task master, but I did like him as a teacher. During those four years, he often had wisdom to share with us. One thing he always said was "The first time you make a mess-up, it's ok. And when do it again, you're stupid." He also also said this quite a bit; "If you're early, you're on time, if you're on time, you're late, and if you're late, you're screwed!

I always enjoyed the adrenalin rush that marching on to the field, and leaving the field made me have.
