Energy Crisis in Europe

Has it affected your bill dramatically? Is your government doing anything to subsidize the cost due to the sanctions imposed on Russia? What is your personal feelings on the sanctions - should they continue?

Europe can't be Russian hostage . They will diversify their suppliers in the future. Problem for Russia is where, how and when to sell their recourses for the next 15 years. Europe was fine without Russia prior to 91' .
Ontheroad · M
@Khenpal1 I totally agree, Europe cannot be held hostage by Russia. Thanks for your comment.

Price caps and subsidies are being introduced across the continent. The EU has taken the decision that what Putin has done constitutes an existential threat to us all and that no price is not worth paying to defeat him. I think most Europeans support the rationale and the sanctions.

@RodionRomanovitch totally with you on Putin and the threat eh presents. He has to be defeated. Thanks for your comment.

Gas prices have at least tripled everywhere. It's not problematic for me personally, because I use wood in an open fire, in winter, to heat my house.
Ontheroad · M
@helenS Yeah, I think the gas prices hit pretty much everyone. I imagine even the price for a cord of wood will or has already gone up, but at least it will be available. Don't get caught short... that would be miserable.

My tariff is fixed until Sep 2024. I think we're getting £400 from government, spread over the winter months.
Ontheroad · M
@SW-User That's a good move on their part. Do you think that will cover most of the increased costs for you?
SW-User
@Ontheroad My bill is fixed, so I won't have any increased costs

I don't think it will cover the increased costs of people on standard rates.
when they sanctioned russia, surely they knew that it would come with costs
Ontheroad · M
@SheCallsMeCrushDaddy I'm sure they (the various governments) did know it, but the real question is did/do they have a plan to prevent the worst of the crisis from hurting those most at risk?

Not mine yet im on a fixed price for another year but the mother in laws bill as gone from £60 a month for both gas and electric to £170 and from next month £230 ! Her pension is £600 a month doesn’t leave much !!
Ontheroad · M
@Barny52 That's what I suspected was happening, at least for those most at risk. Are they talking about any relief?
Barny52 · 56-60, M
Yep price cap £2500 a year that’s double old price, nothing for business yet, heard one fast food shop owner say his electric bill for 3 shop has gone from £17k a year to £100k @Ontheroad
Ceinwyn · 26-30, F
Not really. It’s like shortages and crisis. I see it here and in the news but never in real life.
Ontheroad · M
@Ceinwyn interesting. Maybe it's country by country?
