Sorry, not sorry, I don't understand how anyone can defend Will Smith
He used violence and his verbal outburst was gross, he should be setting an example of how to be a movie star,...

Smacking the host of the show really shows him up as being an angry nasty man, he really couldn't control himself even on live TV
I do not think he should lose an Oscar for this, however I do think he should have some kind of repercussion

Will Smith - overrated actor, piss weak husband allowing his wife to sleep around like a dog on heat
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@nedkelly I couldn’t have said it better
chrisCA · M
@nedkelly Discretion is always better.
At one place I worked, two married coworkers slept together, and everyone knew about it.

loosing an oscar is a stupid repercussion and gives the award to much credibility...

however no hollywood studio with any selfrespect should hire that lousy actor anymore. he will be fine he is rich... but he showed a complete disrespect for the freedom of arts

@MoonMoon yes, he did, very well stated
@MoonMoon I was going to say the same. He should never be allowed to act again.

He needs professional counseling for sure. Terrible example for kids. Did Chris Rock continue with the whole rest of the show after that? They should take his Oscar for this. He marred the Oscars for good. Anyone else, and they wouldn't have allowed this. This has never happened at the prestigious Oscars before. It is totally unacceptable behavior.

@LadyGrace he's really going down in history as a big dope! This was supposed to be a night of glamor and appreciation and fun, it isn't a boxing match... How embarrassing for him, he slapped a comedian that made a innocuous joke about his wife's hair, or lack of.... So what, that's what comedians do!
@SW-User the academy is really upset about this. There will be serious repercussions. Well they say their will but I kind of doubt that it will be only that they ban him from the awards and I don't think that's very much of a disciplinary action, myself. I bet you because of his little tantrum fit thinking he was cute, that he will have a hard time trying to find acting roles but then he has so much money it won't matter.

Me either real men don’t slap other men 🤷🏾‍♂️😒

@SomeAreBoojums at least 😂

It looks staged to me but I didn't study it closely. Just the first impression from the expressions on their faces seconds after it happened.
Wolf90 · M
He definitely overstepped the line in his response. Part of me doesn't want to judge him too harshly because it does look like it was an instantaneous, emotional response to a joke/reference that his wife has probably been feeling pretty sensitive about but he definitely needs to work on that lack of control. I think his apology to Rock was a reasonable first step today but he will be living it down for quite a while.

@Wolf90 yes, it was totally OTT

Exactly! 😎
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
Agreed. ...repercussions may be warranted, but should not include overturning the vote of academy members who felt that his performance was Oscar worthy .
I will defend Will Smith because he was protecting his wife! His wife is living with a disorder you don't turn someone's life into a joke you don't know what someone is going through! Joke or not! Chris Rock deserved that slap! Could Will Smith have handled it better, YES!
SW-User
@SW-User I have seen this post, he is stating his apologies and owning up to his mistake. We all make mistakes despite being famous were all human! I can see things from both points of view and even though he did what he did he could have handled it better I don't condone violence
@SW-User IS he? Or after the fact, did he realize what he had done, so had to put on a pretty dramatic impression to save face and his career?
Quimliqer · 70-79, M
This can’t be just laughed off. It’s serious!
SW-User
@Quimliqer I think so too

@MrHonkHonk My opinion from the start. Thanks!
I agree though I understand why defense is offered. It's mainly from within the industry.
Violence is never right.
Human1000 · M
He’s a violent fraud and a failure of a man. People who kissed his ass afterwards are pathetic.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Nor can I! That was the weakest slap I've ever seen!
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
Violence isn’t right but I understand why he reacted that way. He’s human and it was the wrong thing to do.

It would be like someone making fun of my because I have to use a cane to walk because of my health conditions. I thought Rock’s joke was in very poor taste because she can’t change her health condition.
