Stop saying you’d “love to catch up”! Way too inviting. Instead say “We should have coffee sometime”. Nice and vague. Friendly without being inviting. 😉

@Zaphod42 I know, but those social obligations are weird.

@Zaphod42 I did that to him before that's why this time i couldn't do it 🤦♀️

@BittersweetPotato That’s sorta on him for not understanding the social contract then. The “sometime” in “let get coffee sometime” means it’s a nice thought that most likely will never happen. It’s like when you ask a coworker how they are…both parties understand you’re not actually asking and don’t really care, and the social contract is to reply with “great, how are you?” even if their life is falling apart at the seams.

Last week I got the mobile number of an old friend of mine, not spoken to him or heard any news of him for at least 10 years! So I was thrilled, however he doesn't seem to wanna talk to me at all 😭

@AntisocialTroll their loss 🥺
PiecingBabyFaceTogether · 31-35, M
I fall for that every time and I plan things but it turns out they don't really mean it. Happened a few times whenever I come across someone I used to go to school with. I guess professionally speaking it's slightly different but maybe they don't see it this way.

@PiecingBabyFaceTogether You shouldn't plan unless it is confirmed. It is usually not professional situations which i am talking about here.. but friends whom i haven't seen in a long while

I have it worse, people directly ask me to go out with them....
TheSirfurryanimalWales · 61-69, M
Because that is an invitation....
Tell them -see you sometime!
