That's a shame 😥
I'm sure you'll get better offers. There is a market for teaching in the evening.

How would you answer this question? 🤔
"How do you find yourself qualified as a teacher of the modern era?"
Sorry if that's a bit unrelated. 😅

@LookingForTheSummer I agree. The fondest memories I have are the rapport and connection I have established with my students through all my years of teaching. I have a lot of great stories and a lot of funny and happy memories to draw from.
My 14-year-old daughter also got to see me in action while teaching because she attended a few of my classes this past semester, so she got to see how passionate I am when it comes to teaching.

@marsbar I guess it's an amazing feeling to see how people are improving because of you. I am sure you're an excellent teacher. 🙂
I will ask you my questions in case I have difficulties with English! 😅

@LookingForTheSummer It does make me feel good to know that I’m helping my students, especially when they tell me how much they appreciate my efforts. It makes my eyes water actually. 🥹
Your command of the English language is excellent. I’m sure you can easily handle masters and PhD courses in English. 😁

@marsbar i love the job. i really do, bet you feel the same way ! i can't have it as my full-time job though. I'll need some more for financial stability. i just have it so i can put some in the bank while i pay for tuition 😎

@wackidywack That’s the thing with ESL. A lot of teachers love it, but it’s really hard to support yourself financially just being an adjunct.
I definitely love it, which is why I have been teaching it since 1998. ☺️

@marsbar soooo cooooool 😁
Are you not able to do the teaching full time ? ;( instead of doing the hospital job ?
marsbar · F
@Stark Because of this pandemic and how it negatively affected my teaching opportunities, I was forced to look for work outside of teaching. Within a 4 week period, I was offered both a teaching job and the hospital job, and because of the hours that were offered to me, I could do both jobs. So now my days are reserved for my hospital job, which means I can only teach in the evenings.
Unfortunately, teaching ESL is not a full-time job, for me and many teachers. It’s not like teaching full-time in an elementary school and high school. It has always been a part-time job for me ever since 1998. It’s also very difficult to get hired as full-time faculty at a community college, so all these years I was just working as an adjunct while raising my kids.

Doing what you love is a plus though
marsbar · F
@FreeSpirit1 Definitely! I do have a class in the evening though for 5 weeks this summer, but if I could teach in the morning too, I would.

Go with your passion success folows

What do you teach?
marsbar · F
@caccoon Thank you. It’s the most rewarding job I’ve ever had in my 52 years. The experiences that I have had are unmatched & fill me with happiness.
I will be teaching for five weeks this summer, but I don’t know yet if I will have an assignment for this fall semester. I pray I do, but if I don’t, at least I have my hospital job to fall back on. It’s certainly not as rewarding, but it’s cool that I can work remotely from home.
