My leg got infected again and my parents fear I have diabetes

So i got my fasting sugar checked at home and it was 115.
After food it was 112.

I need to bring some lifestyle changes and before that check if from prediabetic am i diabetic..

It runs in the family along with breast cancer and heart attacks. 😕

If your family has history of diabetes and your doctor has told you that you are pre diabetic I’m sorry to tell you that you are diabetic.

Pre diabetic only means you are in the beginning of the disease and don’t fool yourself into any other thinking.

Blood sugar of 115 is not significantly high. Your best bet is to realize your diet should become 70% vegetarian and 20% protein and 10% carbs.

No sodas, no orange juice and the like. Eat hummus and veggies for snacks, get a diabetes specialist immediately!

I knew all of that and have the family history of diabetes but ignored it and it has made getting the disease significantly harder to get under control. I have a goal of June 2023 to be off insulin and metformin pills by making a crazy amount of lifestyle changes and it’s hard.

Get a diabetes specialist doctor appointment as soon as possible. Trust me you want to get ahead of the disease or suffer the consequences.

@CestManan I must tell you your analogy of hummus as a snack being the same as vacationing at work is fantastic.

@gdon39 I hope it did not seem snide but certain things just are not pleasurable.

I am not saying someone should eat stupid amounts of sugar, just that "healthy snacks" are pointless. No one ever had to tell their spouse or kids to stay out of the carrot jar.

@CestManan you are just fine. However I do love carrots

Do your HBA1c test. That is a more accurate reading than a fasting sugar.
A lot of people have a higher fasting sugar because of something called the Dawn Phenomenon, where your body pumps out adrenaline which turns to sugar for someone to function in their mornings. And it may be nothing to be concerned about.

@SW-User Yes, it causes weight gain ang slow metabolism which leads to high cholesterol and blood sugar so we have to be extra careful. I gain weight soo easily myself.

That’s great, keep walking. Walking has prevented my father from becoming diabetic. @SW-User

Get tested for Hba1c, it will give you an idea about your last 3 months average blood sugar levels.

Most probably, changing to a healthier lifestyle would do the needful.

For now, just keep your sugar levels under control, and antibiotics will start showing the effectiveness. If not, try asking the doc to change the antibiotic. Please also check your sugar levels after 2 hours of meal to get better idea.

Take care..

Consult with your doctor. It may need constant observation for few days.

112 after food is a good reading. It’s best to exercise and eat healthier. I need to do the same myself. Get a treadmill at home, it helps you burn those calories.

@SW-User I understand, I hope it goes away soon. 😕

@SW-User Maybe you need a new doctor. You shouldn’t be suffering from an infection for soo long.

My father was pre diabetic years ago and he didn’t become diabetic. He walks daily.

Hope it is under control before it gets so bad again

I am sorry you are going through this. As the others mentioned get your HBA1c tested to see a bigger picture over 3 months.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@SW-User I don’t blame you. Hopefully you can get it sorted so you won’t need to.
