I'm annoyed by all the fast food places that don't allow you to eat inside. That has nothing to do with spreading COVID; they just figured out that it's cheaper to just have a drive-through - less staff, no need to clean an unused dining area, etc. And the places that do have open eating areas are running a skeleton crew with signs saying "be nice to our staff members who came to work today" along with having a sign in the window advertising jobs they have no intention of filling.
You ask how much longer - the answer is "forever." All COVID did was accelerate trends that otherwise would have played out gradually over the next decade. No dining in, no movie theaters, fewer brick and mortar stores, the end of the American shopping mall - that was going to happen eventually.

@Wiseacre It just looks different. People in every era felt that things were circling the drain. Other things will be great, like better medical care, and no traffic problems once we have self-driving cars.

Hopefully...our medical care is on life support:-((@LeopoldBloom

@Wiseacre Medical technology is improving while peoples' ability to access basic medical care is decreasing.

“The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater.”
